Hear Me Out
Hawks MC: Caroline Springs Charter #5
by Lila Rose
M/M MC Romance
Release Date: August 8, 2017
Hawks MC member Maddox “Beast” Lawson had a difficult time growing up. Tired of being ridiculed because of his effed-up brain-to-mouth connection, it was easier to say nothing at all.
Living in silence worked out just fine until that b*tch called Fate took his hearing, not only that, but she also threw him into the arms of the man who refuses to acknowledge that one hot night they shared.
Jay Conger, Knife to his brothers, loves pussy. Licking, fingering, screwing, he’ll take it any way it’s offered. After one surprising night with Beast, to say he’s freaked out is an understatement. Hell, even bananas have taken on a new meaning, and thinking about a certain someone’s body is too much.
Unable to think straight, Knife is at an impasse, not only with his traitorous desire but with his heart. Both lives are going to change. Only will it be for the better?
MY REVIEW
I'm somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars for this book (somewhere between 'o.k.' to like it). It is a well written story, it is easy to read and has a good balance of dialogue, descriptions and thoughts/emotions.
For me the plot didn't quite flow and connect together in the way that I would have liked. I'm not saying that the plot was difficult to follow or that it jumped around, but at times it felt as though the different elements/sub-plots didn't weave together that much. Instead of one BIG story building up alongside their romance, there seemed to be lots of different vignettes that didn't really gel together.
Possible spoiler but an example of what I mean - Maddox's deafness didn't really have much significance to the plot other than it allowed him to meet Ben and it allowed Jay to 'show' he cared at a point when they were estranged from each other. I kept waiting for him to lip read something important, or his hearing loss to lead to an accident etc but no .... he just became deaf.
At the start of the book Mena plays quite a significant role but then she almost disappears. Personally I would have liked her to remain a friend/confident for Maddox/Beast, I think this would have allowed the character to explore his feelings and hopes in more depth.
Over all I enjoyed the book and really liked both main characters. Maddox was very much the strong, silent type (for a variety of reasons) and Jay was Mr Life-and-Soul-of-the-Party and a total man whore, which was a little bit cliched but they were still well written and drew me into their story.
Lila was born in Brisbane Australia, her step-dad was in the Army which caused them to move around a lot. They finally settled in country Victoria, Australia. Being the youngest of four children she admits she was spoilt a bit. Even drove her mum crazy when she refused to eat meat at a young age.
Now, Lila lives with her husband and two children.
She started writing in 2013 and self-published the first of the Hawks MC: Ballarat Charter series- Holding Out. Since then, she has published eleven other titles, which range from erotica, humorous romance, YA and paranormal.
