HARDCORE VANILLA

Stronghold Doms #8

by Golden Angel

My Review 4.25 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆

One heck of a kinky, steamy read

Whilst part of a BDSM themed series, as the title suggests , the play in this is more kinky than D/s, floggers and clamps. For me that was one of the biggest positives of the story. I loved that this couple didn't bind themselves to the rules or expectations of others. I thoroughly enjoyed Sharon and Jake's story and loved the message of everyone's kink being unique.

I've dipped in and out of this series, so I didn't know a lot about this couple. However this was easy to read this as a stand alone and it was fairly simple to pick up the context of their situation. I really did feel a connection to both Sharon and Jake and felt they were very believable characters. I loved that they found their perfection in the others imperfection, what you want and what you need are not always the same thing.

The story flowed really smoothly, the pace was perfect and I found myself totally engaged in the story from start to finish. Their relationship felt both very natural and very real, with no silly or forced conflict. They dealt with issues in a mature manner, fitting with the age of the characters.

The book is pretty steamy, yet it didn't feel excessive or overdone. I did snicker at some of the inventive words and phrases the author employed to describe a certain part of the female anatomy. Please don't take this too seriously, it's meant to be light-hearted and silly. If forced to choose the I'd say that 'Furry Furnace' was my favourite one.

SYNOPSIS

Sharon Bianchi knows just how lucky she is. Not everyone's grandmother leaves them a trust fund and virtually no worries. But money doesn't mean Sharon's life has been perfect, and after the childhood she had she's more than grateful to have found friends who love and accept her for who she is and not what she can do for them. Even if she does have to put up with constant side-eye from Lexie's big brother, Jake.

With a little help from his friends, Jake Standish has made a successful return to civilian life after serving in the Army. There's only one issue: his unfortunate attraction to the last single woman in his social circle. Sharon is loud, crass, and completely over-the-top. Everything about her grates on him -- including the way he can't get her out of his head.

One very explosive New Year's Eve will set these two frenemies on fire for each other. Is theirs a collision course with disaster or happily-ever-after?

This is the last book in the Stronghold Doms series but can be read as a standalone.

BOOK REVIEW ..............4.5 stars for this dark, dangerous and addictive read

SILENT CAPTIVE

by Addison Cain

⭐⭐⭐⭐★

This is Addison Cain's darkest work yet with only the tiniest glimmers of light that are quickly snuffed out

This book is only for those that enjoy a truly dark read - it's listed under horror (and not romance) for a reason. The sex, at best, is dubious in consent and at times is quite violent.  Wren may be beaten down, she may be degraded, defeated and desperate but still she retains an inner strength.  An inner strength that marks her as one of the toughest heroines I've read about.

The story is pitch black virtually from the first line, in fact it was such a tough first couple of chapters that I did briefly wonder if I would be able to read it. Once started, though, I read it in one sitting, even if it had my emotions all over the place.  This is not a book that you will dip in and out of, once started it will hook you in and not let go until you've read it all.

Caspian again continues to ignore his instincts, which leads to him repeatedly hurting Wren, both physically and emotionally.  He's also a prime example of power corrupting the soul.  Kieran showed some glimpses as to the reason for why he is such an arse.  I wouldn't go so far as to say I like him, but I certainly don't dislike him quite as much as I did at the end of Branded Captive.  Toby was my favourite in Book #1 and I still like him best, though his idea of love is rather scary, not to mention dangerous!

There are the very occasional glimpses of a tiny bit of humanity in our three anti-heroes.  Whether Ms Cain intends to redeem these characters and allow us to forgive them, I'm not sure.  If only they could let go of their 'pack' notions and embrace their instincts there could be light at the end of the tunnel.  They would still be violent, aggressive and possessive alpha-holes, but loving alpha-holes too.

Synopsis

Wren is caught in the clutches of three dangerous Alphas, each with their own selfish designs.

One wants pleasures only an Omega can offer. Another desires affection, yet gives only cruelty in return. And the last—and by far most dangerous—he craves love, but has no idea how to return it.

Silent Captive: Wren’s Song Book 2 is a dark, sinister Omegaverse Reverse Harem tale for those with twisted tastes and a passion for unabashed bad boys. Complete power exchange dominates these pages, as do THREE smoking-hot Alpha antiheroes.

BOOK REVIEW - When He Saw Me by Amelia Wilde

When He Saw Me

by Amelia Wilde

A Contemporary Romance

My Review - 4.5 stars

This drew me in and held me spellbound

When this author writes what her heart tells her, rather than what she believes she should be writing, then what she produces is a masterpiece of a story. That is clearly what happened with When He Saw Me. The writing flows smoothly, the characters captivate you immediately and the plot holds your attention through out.

I really enjoyed this story of two damaged souls who fit together into a wondrous whole. I fell in love with both Ben and Eva. I totally believed in both them as individuals and also as a couple falling in love. They had their quirks, their secrets that seemed so massive to them and yet were not that huge. However this wasn't written in one of those anti-climatic ways, where the author's plot twist was trite and predictable. The was instead a tool that allowed us to understand their personality and psyche.

Ben is muscled, tall, strong: it takes him no effort to pull me
in close and wrap his arm around my shoulders.
"I'll carry you if I have to."

That last sentence makes me swoon, and it carries so much more meaning than it might first appear.  It, along with the rest of the book, just made me swoon.

BOOK REVIEW CONFESS by A Zavarelli

MY REVIEW - 5 STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is up there amongst my favourite reads of the year - it really should be top of your TBR list

So these were some of my thoughts when I was reading this......

"Oh my word this isn't the book I expected. It is soooo much more. There are touches of dark but even more there is so much depth of feeling and emotion."

"I've been naughty, there are some pretty big hints at a certain type of heartbreak, so I couldn't resist skipping ahead to the epilogue.
It's been years since I read the last few pages but I had to do it for The Girl and her Ren, and I had to do it again for this book. Even though in many ways nothing major has happened in the story, this book has my emotions in free fall."

"I feel anxious and on edge in only the way an amazingly written book will do."

I read into the early hours of the morning to finish this, because I quite simply could not put it down. I'm not sure there were any emotions that this book didn't trigger - it left me with one of the biggest book hangovers I've had in a long time.

Gypsy was my 'perfect' heroine. I have such a soft spot for a tough-as-nails, dragged herself out the gutter, take-no-prisoners woman that hides her brokenness so well. Her life has been really tough, she has made many mistakes and she doesn't trust easily at all. There were so times that my heart broke for Gypsy, she is a girl that so deserves a HEA. Lucian is such an enigma for a chunk of this story, but we slowly get to know the measure of the man, and eventually the word 'hero' really and truly does apply to him. I loved this couple both as individuals and as a pair even when they dragged me to hell and back.

The book has so many different phases, there is darkness, bliss, absolute devastation, hope, suspense and growth, not necessarily in that order! The writing touches your soul and this is definitely a story that will stay with you long after so many others will have blown away in the dust of time. The blurb only gives a hint at the magnificence of this story, but telling you more would only spoil the joy of discovering it for yourself.

I'm saying no more other than - read this, just read it.

SYNOPSIS

Lucian
A life free from sin.
For seventeen years, I have lived and breathed those words. But there is no balm to the war inside my soul.
Until her.
The mysterious beauty too lethal to taste. She’s a thief, a con, the essence of everything I loathe. Still, she lures me in with her lying eyes.
In the dark of night, she came to confess her sins, and in the light of morning, I plotted to steal her away.
She will be my ruination. My damnation. My biggest regret.
So help me, God.

**
Gypsy
A word of advice? Don’t show me your vulnerabilities because I will find a way to exploit them. I learned the hard way to take what I want from life with no regrets.
Until him.
He’s one of the most hated men in America. A soulless criminal attorney. A recluse. And as of five minutes ago, my new husband.
He wants to keep my secrets and collect my tears, but he should know that a wild animal can’t be domesticated.
I don’t know how to love men. I only know how to leave them.
With everything I want.

BOOK REVIEW ~~~~~###~~~~~ HOW TO CHOOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS by Lila Monroe

My Review of How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days, Lila Monroe

Absolutely wonderful, a delightful mix of funny, steamy and emotional

If you love a warm, witty and well written tale of love then you need look no further than this. How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days drew me in from the first chapter and held my attention through out.

The book is written 1st person and I really liked that there were chapters from Zach's view point, allowing us to really get to know him as a character. They say never judge a book by it's cover, and that analogy was true for Zach. He appeared to be a selfish, man-whore of a slob, but as we got to know and understand him, there was a real diamond hidden under the layers of neglect. A very gentle soul who just needed to be guided back into life.

Gemma was strong but still sweet and very caring. Both her and Zach were immensely likeable and believable characters. I really believed in their connection, despite the short time period there were enough interactions, conversations and events for it to feel very real.

The resolution was perhaps a little hurried, the idea's were brilliant but I would have loved to experience some of them from Zach's perspective, even if only briefly. However this didn't detract from my enjoyment of what is a really entertaining story and one that is very worth reading.

BOOK REVIEW ~~~~~ MASTERING HIS MATE by Delta James

MY REVIEW - 4.5 STARS  My favourite book of the series so far

I loved how Delta James introduced us to a little more of the shifter's world with each book. Whilst this can be read as a stand alone, and is my favourite book so far, I do think reading either of the first two books will give you a better understanding of the all female Bae Diogel pack and the politics behind disbanding them.

I really liked both main characters, Roz is one tough as nails heroine who NEVER backed down and never lost her fire. Oliver was very sympathetic to and incredibly understanding of Roz's plight of her pack being forcibly disbanded. It didn't stop him punishing her a few times, but I loved how he took the time to discuss with and listen to Roz, as well as taking into account that she wasn't a natural shifter. He's an alpha through and through but clearly put Roz's well being before anything else.

It is a patriarchal society and whilst Oliver insisted on having Roz's submission, he not only respected her for it but also gave the impression that he would like to see females having more of a say in the structure of their society.

There is a story thread that runs throughout the series, building towards some type of conflict. Whilst that part of the story isn't completed in this book, it IS a complete story with a HEA. The background story will continue in future books that feature other couples and I for one can't wait to read them.

He has been patient with his mate for long enough. Now she needs to be mastered.

After she was injured in an attack by a rogue band of wolves, Rosalyn Kincanon awoke to discover that her life had changed forever. Angry and distraught, she fled from those that nursed her back to health and found her own place in the world. But now the all-female pack she helped lead has been disbanded and the women are to be claimed as mates whether they like it or not.

The moment Oliver Halsey saw Rosalyn, he knew she was his mate. But she was born a human, and the vicious brutes who turned her did so against her will, so he set aside his rights as alpha and gave her the freedom she needed to come to terms with her new reality. Now her time is up.

Oliver knows what Rosalyn needs, even if she doesn't. When she runs, he will catch her and bring her back. When she disobeys, he will bare her and punish her. He will take her harder and longer than she would have ever thought possible, and she will scream and beg as one climax after another is forced from her naked, quivering body. It is time for his mate to be mastered.

Publisher's Note: Mastering His Mate is a stand-alone novel which is the third entry in the Wayward Mates series. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book. Also note that Mastering His Mate shares its setting with Adaline Raine's previously published books Marked by the Alpha and Rules of the Pack, and it was written only after receiving Adaline's permission and support.

About Maddie
A USA Today and #1 international bestselling author, Maddie is a lifelong reader who became a romance junkie as a teen with her first romance novel, The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss. From then on, she was hooked, and gobbled up everything she could get her hands on, whether contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi. If there was romance to be found between a strong alpha male, and a sassy, adventurous and ofttimes defiant yet loving woman, Maddie was all over it.

As an author, she stays true to those themes writing steamy erotic romance, with a side of kink, and adding elements of intrigue, danger and suspense to her plots. Maddie started writing as a hobby. Her stories stayed private while she raised a family and worked full time as a registered nurse. It wasn't until 2012 that she decided to take the plunge and submit her first book for publication: Captain My Captain. She went on to publish eleven novels the first year.
