My Review

4.5 stars

Whilst this can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading at least the first 3 books of the Illusion series first. This contains some pretty big spoilers for that trio of books.

I'm in a bit of a reading funk, I've not even finished several of the last few books I've read. So just the fact that I got to the end of this is testament to the quality of writing. I enjoyed the book a lot, I liked Jordan and Allie, the story flowed well, the plot wasn't too predictable and I loved getting to know Sasha some more. It was effortless to read and strangely I felt the impact on Sawyer, of Jordan's tragic childhood, much more keenly in this book than I did in his own. It was good to see different perspectives and experience events from a new viewpoint.

However it didn't leave me with that 'WOW' factor that I need to rate a book 5 stars. Allie sometimes felt a little too 'nice'. I also wanted more angst with the whole Tyler/Jordan/Allie plot. Jordan didn't know how he felt or what he wanted until suddenly he maybe, kind of, did. Whilst this was linked to a very pivotal event for the Weston family I didn't quite believe his choice, mainly because it lacked emotional intensity for me. I think this was more 'me' than the book though.

The story is first person, from both main characters point of view, so you get to know them both really well. I liked that the story never felt forced, ridiculous or cliched, instead it felt fresh and unique. The heat level is high in this, though never sleazy or cheap. The sex scenes compliment their relationship and story really well, feeling a natural part of the plot.

I do recommend this to all lovers of contemporary romance with a blue-collar hero. It does have spoilers for the rest of the series and I really do recommend reading those books too.

Read an excerpt from INTERLUDE

“You’re just a big ol’ loveable ball of fur, aren’t you? Why did your daddy name you Fat Bastard? That’s just mean.” “Because that’s what he is to most people.” I jump and grab the cat, who isn’t pleased I disturbed his resting place. “Jesus, Jordan! You scared the crap out of me.”

He leans back against the wall, a grin kicking up at the corner of his mouth. Jordan seems tired but also quite amused. “Sorry, I didn’t expect anyone to be in my house. And I definitely didn’t expect to see my ornery cat curled up in your lap. Did you cast a spell on him?” “He’s really that bad? I thought Sasha was exaggerating. All I did was feed him, give him water, and talk to him.”

Jordan takes a seat next to me, and I swear the temperature in here just rose about ten degrees. What is it about him that affects me like this? He’s not my type at all. Then again, my type hasn’t worked out so well for me either. “Fat Bastard earned his name all by himself. Maybe you should have been the one to find him instead of me. I’ve never seen him take to someone like this, except with kids, but kids are pretty special in their own right, so I figured that was probably normal.” Oh my God, he likes kids. I’m not sure how to reply because I’m still stuck on the kid thing, but I get a reprieve when my phone rings. Jordan passes it to me and accidentally hits the speaker button.

“Hello? Allie … Christ, Allie, it’s about time! Are you finally going to talk to me?” Shit. Evan is pissed. Jordan’s eyes cloud over like a thunderous rainstorm as he scowls at my phone. “Evan, I can’t talk right now.” “The hell you can’t. The gala is in three days, Allie. We’re announcing our engagement, your father is out of his mind, and he froze your trust fund. You have no money, Allie. It’s time to stop having a tantrum and come home.”

This is so embarrassing. My gaze locks on J’s, and I mouth “I’m sorry.” “Evan, I suggest you do some damage control. Find the trollop you were fucking and announce your engagement to her instead for all I care. As I said in my letter, I’m not coming back. I’m sorry if you were planning to live off my trust fund, but if I can live without it, so can you.” “You selfish bitch!” Evan rages.

Jordan’s eyes widen before he opens his mouth, and when he does, I’m not sure if I want to kiss him or punch him—or both. “Babe, come back to bed. My cock misses your lips.” “Who the hell is that?!” Evan screams. Jordan nudges the cat to the floor and scoots closer to me. “This is the man Allie is currently fucking. Who are you?” Evan sputters, and I can picture him losing his cool. “Allie, what is going on?”

Jordan flips me onto his lap, and I squeal in surprise. My eyes widen as he mouths “Go with it.” What do I have to lose at this point? Jordan leans in closer, holding the phone between us. “Come on, babe. Hang up the phone and let’s go back to bed.” “Bed? That’s my fiancée you’re talking about. Allie Bear, tell me this is some kind of sick joke,” Evan whines. “There’s no ring on her finger. Besides, possession is nine tenths of the law, and since her pussy was just wrapped around my dick, I’d say that makes her more mine than yours right now. Wouldn’t you?”

My cheeks flush as J runs his fingers across one with a lazy grin. “Come on, Bear, tell him you’re just paying me back. A little quid pro quo, right?” Jordan snickers. “You call her Bear? That’s adorable, but I think she’s more of a tigress myself. My little Allie Cat.” Jordan drops his mouth to my neck, and I can’t help the moan that escapes me. “Hear that, Evan? Doesn’t sound like anyone’s fiancée to me.”

Jordan’s lips ghost over mine, and I whimper. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this attracted to someone, if ever. “This isn’t over, Allie. Do you hear me?” Evan is probably redder than a beet, but when Jordan lowers his mouth to mine, it erases the image of Evan in my mind.

He kisses me loudly, like a man on a mission. Weaving his hands through my hair, he pulls me close. J nips my bottom lip, and I gasp in pleasure, his length growing beneath me as I press into him with a contented sigh. He turns off my phone and tosses it to the opposite side of the couch. Jordan’s mouth closes over mine, and I fall into his kiss with all my senses. His tongue meets mine and claims it.

This isn’t a sweet getting-to-know-you kiss. This is a sexual awakening I never knew I was missing, and I want more. Evan is already a distant memory as I press myself closer while losing myself in his kiss. As I tug on his hair, he growls into my mouth. I remember the freshly fucked look he had to him when we met, and I want to be the one to make him look that way. I want to be the one on my knees for him.

BOOK REVIEW - Tamed on the Ranch - Domestic Discipline Contemporary Romance

Tamed on the Ranch

by Delta James

ღ˚ •*  ˚ ˚•✰˚ ˛★* ღ˛° * ° ˚ •☆°,★*.ღ  。

3.5 stars

This is one easy to read, well written book, with a likeable hero and heroine. Whilst this might not be my favourite read by the author, it is still a hot and sexy story. I felt the story was a little 'tell' rather than 'show' at first, so that the relationship between Luc and Melody almost seemed to come out of nowhere. However once the pair were in said relationship the emotion flowed readily through the story and I found their love very believable. They shared a deep connection and have a very passionate relationship. Luc might call Melody 'mouse' but she is no doormat heroine, even though she allows him to spank her. Luc is hugely caring of Melody and puts her above all else.

There was a very slight timeline discrepancy around Julie's appointment to cook an 'audition meal'.  It was arranged for the next day, but then we had the passage of a couple of weeks before the meal was cooked.  However it really didn't affect the flow of the story or my enjoyment of it.

This is a book where the couple have a domestic discipline relationship, with Luc being the dominant partner and Melody submitting to his will. He does spank her as punishment for poor/foolish/dangerous behaviour. If that will offend you then this might not be the book for you. However if you read with an open mind, and remember that Melody willingly agrees to this set up, you will find a very steamy read with a couple who care very deeply about each other.

BLURB

After she takes a job at the Crooked Creek ranch, Melody Jackson quickly hits it off with handsome cowboy Luc Girard, and it isn't long before she is begging shamefully for more as the ridiculously sexy rodeo champion gives her the ride of her life. But Luc is the kind of man who expects to be obeyed, and when Melody's disregard for his instructions puts her in danger, she soon learns the hard way that he will not hesitate to punish her bare bottom both inside and out.

Luc's stern correction leaves Melody blushing crimson yet deeply aroused, and her need for him only increases as he claims her ever more thoroughly over the coming weeks. But when she is finally forced to reveal the secret she has been keeping from her employers, will Melody end up losing not only her job but also the man who has both mastered her body and tamed her heart?

Publisher's Note: Tamed on the Ranch is a stand-alone sequel to Taming His Cowgirl. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

BOOK REVIEW - Teacher's Pet - 4 stars

Teacher's Pet

(Copper Creek Book 5)

by Wendy Smith

My Review - 4 stars

A wonderful end to a beautiful series

James has been a bit of a dark horse throughout this series. He is very much the youngest of the Campbell brothers and has only featured briefly in the previous Copper Creek books, so I had no idea what to expect from him. Having enjoyed the rest of the series I was very much looking forward to reading this.

Whilst Teacher's Pet on first appearances fits into the 'teacher/student taboo romance' trope, it is actually much more than that, with the age difference playing a fairly minor role within the story. I did like how this didn't fall into the same patterns of many age difference romances and one of the greatest strengths of this whole series is that the relationships are so very 'real'. There aren't contrived plot twists to add angst, suspense or shock value. This actually could be someone's real life story.

It might not be to all tastes but there are some significant time jumps. These are VERY clearly labelled, I don't know about you but I can't stand it when there is some unknown passage of time that suddenly occurs between one sentence and the next. These occurred once Mia and James were in a relationship, where we don't need to experience every interaction. It also gives rise to a very believable relationship and love story, since they entire book is set over several years.

Mia and James are both very likeable characters, well written and nicely rounded. James was perhaps a touch too perfect at times, I'd have liked to see him mess up, be grumpy, slob around etc but when all is said and done it wasn't a huge deal!

The book is written first person from both their POV's. We also get several chapters from Corey's perspective, along with seeing lots of glimpses of all the brothers, their partners and their combined offspring. If you've read any of the previous books you will love these little glimpses into their lives. If you haven't they are written in such a way that you can enjoy the scenes without needing any back story.

The book ends with a wonderful epilogue and the most delightful of bonus chapters that brings us full circle to where the story started.

Synopsis

James Campbell’s love life is complicated.

He chose the university he went to because he was following a girl—only to get dumped by her. Now he’s in love again, and this time it’s the real deal. Except for two problems.

Mia loves James. But the spectre of her broken marriage hangs over her when her ex gets a job in the same place she works. And where she works is the other problem.

She never meant to fall in love with a student.

This is the final book in the Copper Creek series and concludes the story of the Campbell family.

BOOK REVIEW - Decker by Eden Summers, a romantic suspense

DECKER

By Eden Summers

ღ˚ •。* ˚ ˚✰˚ ˛★* 。 ღ˛° 。* ° ˚ • ★ *˚ .ღ 。

4 stars - ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mysterious, secretive and twisty beyond belief - that covers the plot, as well as both Keira and Decker!

Decker took me through the whole gamut of emotions, from lust to anger, betrayal to hope, despair and forgiveness. I thought that Keira and Decker were really well written characters, they had depth and even though there were times when I didn't like their actions, I totally loved them as 'people'. Never judge a book by it's cover and don't judge this pair by first impressions.... whilst both characters are very likeable, they both have their own secrets and dark sides.

The plot is twisty and intriguing, this romantic suspense takes us on one heck of a ride. There were a few times, in the first half of the book, when personally I felt the pace dragged briefly. However it wasn't enough to make the book boring and, once we really start getting to the truths hidden under the layers of lies that make up this pair, the action was almost non-stop.

It was good to see more of Hunter and Sarah, though if really don't need to have read Hunter to enjoy this book. I loved that twist at the end, which isn't quite a cliff-hanger (we do get a resolution for Keira and Decker) but does set up the next book really well.

You wouldn't believe Dex Riggs and I are from the same town. He's the ultimate bad boy; I'm the one who goes by the book. He's a sexy former cop with a shady past; I'm the girl who married her high school sweetheart.

But now my marriage is over, I'm burned out on my business, and worst of all, I never got the baby I wanted. And now I never will.

Unless Dex is willing to make a deal.

I get a baby; he gets... me. For a little while. Once I'm knocked up, we'll go our separate ways. That's the rule.

I've never broken a rule. Dex has broken all of them.

Which rule will we break first?

MY REVIEW - 5 STARS

I've read so many character linked series where there has been a big build up to the story of the moody, loner, alpha male guy.  Your heart has been stolen by brief glimpses of this guy in prior books, and you just know he is to die for.  Then you get hold of the book and are left somewhere between disappointed and p***ed off. It lacks everything the other books had and leaves you cold.

WELL NOT THIS ONE!!!!!! Nope, Nopey No No, this one was absolutely swoonmazingly awesome.  Oh my word how my heart melted for Dex, he was everything I wanted and so much more too.  So vulnerable and sweet under all that bravado.  Lauren is one lucky girl and was absolutely perfect for him.  This was definitely well worth the wait.  I loved it so much I couldn't put it down and it became a one-sit reading.

This was a little insta-love, though the two main characters had been fascinated with each other in high school.  However the connection and chemistry between this pair was so believable that I happily embraced a trope that doesn't often work for me.  Dex and Lauren did more than make love, their very souls came together and were bound for eternity.

We had previously only seen Dex through the eyes of others, but I always knew he had hidden depths.  He was no where near the don't give a damn alpha-hole that had been portrayed, though this was the image he deliberately projected for others.  I loved how Lauren's own pain and suffering allowed her to see the same pain and suffering that Dex hid so well from others.  I loved how the pair of them instinctively understood and saw the truth of the other person.

Have I already said how Dex was so much more, so much deeper, so much more damaged, so much more complex and wonderful than I could have imagined.  Lauren was just as wonderful. I truly, totally and utterly fell in love with this pair and they will always have a special place in my heart.

You need to read this book, and this series, now.

BOOK REVIEW ****** FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS by Liz Durano

Friends with Benefits

A Friends to Lovers Holiday Romance

by Liz Durano

☆*•.¸(*•.*★*.•*´)¸.•☆

4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐✵

A beautifully gentle yet emotion filled friends-to-lovers romance

Friends With Benefits is a captivating, stand alone contemporary romance, with two characters we first met in Falling for Jordan . This is more novella length, though it's still a very full and well rounded story, with two very likeable and believable main characters.

Cait and Cam have known each other for years. Not only is Cam her brother's best friend but he's also considered to be part of the family. So when a drunken night leads to something very not platonic, life suddenly gets a lot more complicated. One of them is prepared to go all in, the other thinks they should leave it as a one time deal. Will they be able to bridge the divide? Is it worth the risk?

Cait isn't looking for anything serious. After all she still has a long and busy semester left before she graduates with her Masters degree. Cam is far to busy working long hours to be on of the the best and most successful financial analysts. He also worries he'll turn out like his Dad and not love his wife and child enough to stay around for them.

This story drew me in straight away and just had that 'very easy to read' feel that kept me hooked throughout. The characters have depth and you find yourself genuinely caring about them. I really enjoyed this story with its romantic, sexy, emotional and well paced plot. You will find yourself rooting for this couple, loving their interactions and wanting to be part of their wonderful wider family.

I highly recommend Friends With Benefits , it's a classy Hallmark movie in book form and the perfect way to get you in the holiday mood.

Synopsis

Campbell:
There’s an unspoken rule between best friends: he may be your "brother from another mother" but don't ever fall for his gorgeous sister no matter what happens... until you do.

Caitlin:
I’ve known Campbell all my life. He’s the boy next door and my brother’s best friend… the one man outside of family with whom I can completely be myself.

But when I wake up in his bed the morning after his company holiday party, there are two things I suddenly can’t ignore: Campbell Murphy is all grown up in more ways than one, and I no longer want to be just his best friend’s sister.

But even if we're both on the same page, is a fling worth sacrificing a lifetime of trust between families? Or is it worth a shot at something that had always been there all along?

Each book in A Different Kind of Love series can be read on its own with NO cliffhanger and a guaranteed HEA. Some are angsty and emotional while some are fun, lighthearted, and set during the holiday season… like this one!

`*•.¸•°• BOOK REVIEW °• FINDING HOPE by Tiffani Lynn

Finding Hope

A Colorado Veterans Christmas

by Tiffani Lynn

5+ stars - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⋆

Quite simply one of the best contemporary romances I've read in a while

Finding Hope is the fifth book in the Colorado Veterans series, though all can be read stand-alone. You really don't need to have read any of the other books to enjoy this one, though I do highly recommend reading the whole series, simply because they are such fantastic books. Whilst the story is set around the Christmas period, it is a book that you will read again and again, any time of the year. It's somewhere between novella and short novel, but despite the shorter length this still packs an emotional punch. This book really moved me, so much so that I ugly cried at how touching certain scenes were.

I love a military man, especially a damaged alpha hero, and adore a strong, feisty heroine. With Tiffani Lynn's characters I get that in spades. I haven't met a hero or heroine of hers that I haven't either fallen in love with, or wanted to be best friends with and this book was no different.

We have Rosie, whose teen and young adult years were full of the worst types of abuse. She has a heart of gold and a generous soul, her goodness and kindness shone so bright as to almost dazzle you. Then there is ex-marine Cyrus, suffering the trauma's so many of our brave soldiers do once back on home soil. This pair had so many raw and damaged edges but they came together to form one beautiful and perfect whole.

The strength and beauty of this book lies in it's intense focus on Cy and Rosie and their time together. Whilst there are a couple of side plots, most of the scenes involve both of them. This helps form a really strong picture of who they both are, as well as allowing us to experience their growing connection. Both characters are so very believable, not to mention likeable, and with the book written 1st person from both POV's I totally felt a connection to both of them.

There is nothing I would change about this story (well other than to make it 5 times longer just so I could spend longer with this delightful couple). I can't sing its praises highly enough. There are no miracle solutions to problems, no love curing deep seated trauma, but the realism is what I love about this series. There is, however, plenty of love and joy to be found in the pages of this book, along with a wonderful set of characters and a pretty amazing story.

Do I think you should read this book? Yes I most certainly do.

Synopsis

Marine Corps veteran, Cy McMullen walked away from his life, and everyone he loved, never looking back. Suffering from severe PTSD from his time overseas has left him socially crippled and emotionally damaged. With limited coping skills and an inability to trust anyone, he now lives a hopeless, solitary life on the streets.

Registered Nurse, Rosie Rossi recently moved to Colorado Springs to be near her sister, after a forced estrangement that lasted nearly two decades. She loves spending time with her sister and family, but she needs something to call her own as she struggles to deal with the ghosts of her own past. She soon finds purpose in volunteering at the local Veteran's homeless shelter.

One cold December afternoon, circumstance pushes Rosie and Cy together in a way that forces them to come to terms with things they've long since avoided. An unlikely friendship blossoms between the two with a warmth that could melt even the most frozen of hearts.

In a season where miracles are born, fate chose to bring these two lonely, broken people together to heal one another. The pain of the past is the only thing standing in their way, but they both have been given a gift, something they thought was gone forever... hope.

MY REVIEW -  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh my word, at 13% I'd had to break the tissues out twice!

This book can't be read as a stand alone. It is part of a five, yes FIVE book series. Had I known, at the start, that this was going to be a 5 book journey, I might not bothered to read it. After all, how can one story sustain 5 books you may ask yourself. Well D Kelly has proved that it is possible to write 5 amazing books about a truly wondrous, sometimes heartbreaking but always amazing, love story.

I would highly recommend a re-read of Just An Illusion - EPbefore reading this, since the two books are so intertwined. Because it's nearly 18 months since I read that book, I found myself having to look up some events. Whilst you retain the major events, the names and the personalities of the characters, some details are forgotten. I couldn't believe how many times Mel and Sawyer got close, fell out, got close again!

There was a LOT of new stuff in here. Some because it was Sawyer's POV of a scene, some because he wasn't always with Mel and quite a lot of extra details that we didn't learn in EP . Don't worry, there wasn't anything that changed the story in there! We also got some stunning epilogues of a 'way down the line' future, which were simply perfect.

Whilst I didn't ugly cry to the extent of EP , this is one heck of an emotional journey. Considering that you already KNOW where it's heading and how it 'ends' that is some testament to the awesome writing in this book. Sawyer changes so much and yet doesn't change at all, he is sweet, sexy, dark, demanding and with such a huge and giving heart. We get his devastation at losing Noah, but in more subtle ways than we did with Mel's story. I think that was perfect because we'd already lived that loss and heartbreak so closely.

I'm very torn between giving this 4.5 and the full 5 stars as I did feel the on/off/on/off nature of Sawyer and Mel went on too long. However I never felt that in EP and I'm also wondering if I'd read EP just before this if I would fee differently - I'm fairly certain I would.

So in summary, you may think you know the story of Mel and Sawyer, but there is so much more to learn. There is so much more to feel, experience, laugh at, cry at and rejoice at. If you haven't started the series then set aside a good block of time, because once you start you will want to read all 5 books. If you've started the series, then whatever you may think now, this is most definitely the ending that you need to the story.
