The Dark Necessities Book Three

by Felicity Brandon

A Dark Romance/Kidnap Thriller

Release Date: February 6, 2019

5 DARK AND DANGEROUS STARS

A perfect ending to this dark and twisted trilogy

If you've read the first two book, Taken and Tamed, then I'm pretty certain you won't be disappointed with the finale to this fantastic dark romance series. This can't be read as a stand alone, so you do need to read the other two books first. The Dark Necessities trilogy is very aptly named, because once you ventured into it's murky depths it soon becomes necessary to read the entire series. Molly and Connor will totally capture your heart, mind and soul with their wicked tale of depravity, denigration and desire.

This isn't as intensely dark as the previous two books, but it is just as captivating and smoking hot. We see some significant changes for both Molly and Connor, they must tread a pathway where freedom and choice is tempered by want, need and responsibility. They evolve and grow into a couple so very perfect for each other, a pairing where their dark edges merge and blend seamlessly.

I totally adore both of them, their relationship consumed me in a way that makes me want to never let them go. The writing is wonderful, it drew me in and kept me engaged throughout. The pace was perfect, the plot was unpredictable and their emotions held me in the moment.

The Dark Necessities Trilogy is an absolute must read. Unless you're a lover of dark reads it will push your boundaries, but it is so very worth that journey. I'm a bit sad now that the adventure is over, I almost didn't want to read the last few chapters just so that the story wouldn't end.

BOOK REVIEW - 4.5 STAR PARANORMAL ROMANCE SERIES

A Shifter's Rage

A Gritty Urban Fantasy Novel
(Rouen Chronicles Book 2)

by Raven Steele and Ava Mason

Review - 4.5 stars

Fast paced, action packed and full of unexpected surprised

This is the second book in the Rouen Chronicles series and does need to be read after Book #1. This story picks up fairly close to the end of that book, with Briar in captivity and Dominic looking to destroy her. The book then twists and turns through quite a few startling events, one of which gutted me and let to Briar making some foolish choices.

Her bond with Luke continues to grow, though they still haven't got down and dirty! However a vampire by the name of Angel (*swoon*) adds an unexpected element to the plot. There is still a character I'm not totally sure I trust (view spoiler at bottom of this post). We find out more about the threat that is growing for both paranormals and humans, but there is still a long way left before this threat is neutralised.

My attention was held from the very first to the very last line. The writing flows so smoothly, the characters are well crafted and multifaceted. Within the pages we find intrigue, lies and secrets along with some long hidden truths being revealed. A Shifter's Rage is a wonderful follow up to A Shifter's Curse and I am massively looking forward to reading Book 3.

Synopsis

"I never go to bed angry. I stay awake and plot my revenge."

Imprisoned for killing Silas, Briar's only chance of surviving is to rely on her roommates and Luke, the sexy shifter she loves to hate. But getting free won't solve her problems. She still has to kill Dominic, the pack Alpha who murdered her entire family.

To do that, she has to make Dominic believe she's still team bad guys so she can get close to him and find out whom he's working with. Especially when she learns just about everyone and their evil dog is looking for the one thing she has sworn to protect--the Abydos, powerful and ancient blood that could either end the world or save it.

But playing the other side has some severe consequences, especially when she gets too close to the darkness and savors it's poisonous flavor one too many times. If Briar can't let go of her demons, she'll lose everyone she loves.

** Intended for adult readers due to violence and language. **

BOOK REVIEW - --- - IN THE LAND OF GODS AND MONSTERS by Carmen Jenner

In the Land of Gods and Monsters, Part One

by Carmen Jenner

4.5 stars - ⭐⭐⭐⭐✪

Mind blown, at the start I didn't think I would enjoy this but by the end I loved it.

Positives
Whilst at first this felt very similar to several other 'kidnapped slave in training' stories, it had quite a few unique touches that really drew me into the story.

In particular I LOVED how Pet, even when she felt broken, never lost her fire. She never truly gave up, she maybe made stupid decisions, but she retained herself.

I personally liked the Israel twist/ side plot. On paper it shouldn't have worked but it did.

´`★.¸¸¸. •°´♡¸.★*´♡¸.★*´♡

Negatives - though these may be addressed in later books

Huge suspension of disbelief that a top flight principal dancer can be kidnapped without a trace from her dressing room.

Massive suspensions of disbelief that you would choose to kidnap a pretty well know person, from a VERY rich family, as someone to train and then sell on as a slave. Far too much risk involved.

There was a little too much sex and not enough story/world building at one point.

***So after taking some time to think, I'm putting this firmly in the 'enjoyed' category.***

I didn't realise this wasn't going to be a stand alone. However it either had a very open ending, or there is (I'm hoping and guessing from the fact that it now says part one) more to come. I really liked this authors writing style, the pace, the characters, the darkness, the intrigue, the danger and her ability to write a damn good mind-f**k of a story.

I loved Pet. One of the biggest things that annoys me is when a heroine thinks she is strong, or the author repeatedly tells us she is BUT what we actually get is a female who is as soft as a marshmallow. Pet was so well written, I loved how she never gave up. Yes she made some really stupid (with hindsight) decisions BUT she (a) made them, (b) learnt from them and (c) might have been scared at times but she wasn't a push over either.

Ares had enough about him to give him a likeable edge, he was nicknamed death and he certainly had a malevolent streak to him. He intrigued me and again was a very well written character. I would have found him, and the book as a whole, a lot darker had we experienced more punishment and non-con scenes.

I felt there was a slight case of telling us Pet had been trained to enjoy pain along with pleasure, rather than being shown. However I think some of this was because the book was set over several months, although this wasn't clear until quite a way through the book. Up until that point I thought we were talking days or a couple of weeks, though I do prefer that it was a longer time period.

I really liked the hints of what else was to come, the mystery of why they had to rush from The Ranch, why Ares and his brother are in the sex slave trade and why they need so much money. The book really held my attention and I read it from start to end with barely a pause. The pace, writing, character development and plot were all really good and I definitely plan to read more of this series.

Synopsis

In the land of gods and monsters, she was a toy. A plaything. A pet.

His pet.

Taken, stolen, beaten, used.

Pet remembers nothing before his touch, and afterward she craves nothing more.

Sinful and merciless, Ares is her god now. He alone says when to beg, when to come, and when to kneel, but he never said anything about leaving.

Warning: In the Land of Gods and Monsters is a dark romance novel. It contains strong sexual themes, dubious consent, graphic violence, and may contain triggers for some readers.
