MY REVIEW - 4.5 STARS
Two broken souls whose parts made one beautiful whole
In some ways this was a very typical contemporary romance and yet through good writing and some wonderful characters this had very unique feel. This is an author who I know writes solid love stories with likeable and believable characters. I loved the sound of this book from the blurb, who can resist a damaged military hero? Or a frenemies-to-lovers story?
Wes is a former soldier, silently struggling to forget the horrors he has experienced and filled with guilt. Whitney is an aspiring actress, determined to maintain a positive attitude and to always make the best of what life brings her. Wes loves order, calm and control, Whitney is spontaneous and loud. Can they find enough common ground on which to build a relationship?
I didn't immediately warm to Whitney as a character. However as I got to know her, and more importantly got to know about her, I really fell for her. She is such a strong and determined character and never lets life get her down. Wes broke my heart with his stoicism, even if he was being pig-headed about getting help. This pair perfectly fitted together despite being totally wrong in so many ways. I really believed in them as a couple and thoroughly enjoyed reading their story.
The ending - oh the ending - it just made me melt. Best of all the epilogue wrapped up the story perfectly.
There is a good mix of romance, steam and angst, with some wonderful humour and some contrasting serious moments. Unless you prefer clean/sweet romances then this is a contemporary romance that I am more than happy to recommend.
