BLOG TOUR, CHAPTER REVEAL & REVIEW ----- CONVICTION by Jane Henry

Brax can’t get the girl on the dance floor out of his mind, the woman he literally swept off her feet and into Club Verge. She’s no submissive, but he can’t help but admire her ferocity, even as he yearns to take her over his lap and teach her manners. He’s determined to keep her safe if he has to lock her up himself.

Officer Zoe Mackay can handle herself. But when she learns information that puts her life at risk, she’s forced to seek the assistance of a private investigator. Little does she know the man she hires is none other than Braxton Cannon, the high-handed dominant who gave her the hottest one-night stand of her life.

With her assailants in hot pursuit, Zoe is forced to seek refuge in Club Verge, where she finds way more than she’s bargained for...

Braxton

I’m pretty sure it’s a total dickhead move to mentally undress the woman on the dance floor in front of me, but, you know, love is in the air and all that shit, so I don’t much care. I came here to toast the happy couple who, like smart people, went and eloped months ago. Their friends were a little miffed they didn’t get a chance to celebrate, so once spring came Zack and Bea announced they were having a reception. I’m always game for something that involves free food and liberal amounts of beer, so here I am, even dressed in a fucking suit which hasn’t happened since… ok, ever.
But Jesus, this woman’s gorgeous, and likely young enough to make even looking at her illegal, but who’s gonna stop me? She’s got a dancer’s blood in her veins or something, because this girl has moves. As the music pumps through speakers so loudly I feel it in my bones, her hips grind in time to the beat, and it’s fucking beautiful. I’m half in awe of her energy, unable to take my eyes off her. Though she’s all round curves—petite but voluptuous, her creamy shoulders bare, the sleeveless short dress she’s wearing clearly being held up my magic—she’s got edges, too. I can tell just looking at her there’s a ferocity that fuels her. On her right shoulder she’s got a tattoo of a bird in flight. While I watch her dance, I fantasize about sinking my teeth into that tattoo, then smacking my hand against her curvy, gorgeous ass. She shakes her head, the thick locks of chestnut-colored hair loosening, little tendrils clinging to her damp forehead as she gets down to the music. The beat gyrates around me as she wiggles her hips, her feet moving in time to the crazy-ass beat.
“Hey, Brax, have you seen Diana?” My friend Tobias comes up to me and taps my beer bottle with his. Diana, his wife and Beatrice’s best friend, toasted the happy couple, but I haven’t seen her since.
“No, man,” I say, shaking my head. I take another swig of my beer, then watch the girl in front of me as she snags one of her friends around the waist and they dance together. Christ. One was bad enough. Two of them dancing together? I’ll leave this place with fucking blue balls.
“Get it out of your head, man,” Tobias says. “Can’t get your eyes off Zoe? That won’t end well for you. Don’t even entertain the thought.” Tobias is technically my boss, but also my friend, and though I trust his judgment, I don’t hear warning in his tone but a dare.
“Yeah?” I ask, watching her even more intently now.
“Braxton,” he says warningly.
“What? Dude, you can’t just say ‘stop looking at the most gorgeous woman in this room and forget about her’ and expect me be all, ‘yeah, sounds right, whatever you say.’ Did you forget who I am?”
Tobias sobers then. He leans against the bar, crossing his arms on his chest, and fixes me with a serious look. His dark brown eyes, shadowed by a shock of dark brown hair that falls on his forehead, darken. “That’s one of Zack’s best friends, and she’s an officer with the NYPD. She’s easily ten years younger than you, and I don’t know much, but I know that girl has got a shit ton of baggage.”
Who doesn’t? The idea of that woman kicking the crap out of someone makes her that much more attractive to me. And Jesus. Baggage? That doesn’t dissuade me. I live in fucking New York City. There’s no such thing as a New Yorker without baggage. Hell, I’m a classic example. I sold my auto body shop this past winter when a friend offered me a job that paid a hell of a lot more than I was currently earning. I’m a full time Dungeon Monitor at Tobias’s club, Verge, and I make good money there. Picking up some private work on the side has supplemented my income, and hell I need it, because Devin does, and child support doesn’t go on sale. The thought of my six-year-old daughter almost sobers me, then the music shifts and Zoe’s back at it again.
“Everyone’s got baggage, man,” I say to Tobias. “You know I’m no exception.”
He shakes his head. “Brax, there’s baggage and then there’s baggage. She’s beautiful, but she doesn’t know shit about the lifestyle, and if you touch a hair on her head, Beatrice or Zack, or possibly even both of them, will kick your ass. They’ve gotten tight.”
Beatrice is like five foot nothing and now married to the sternest Dom in all of Verge. That’s supposed to scare me? I know Zack won’t care.
“Fuck,” Tobias says, watching me with narrowed eyes as I finish my beer and plunk the empty on the counter. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
I grin at him. “Challenge accepted.”

MY REVIEW

A wonderful romantic suspense with a splash of kink

This was a romantic suspense, that held my attention, with a totally alpha male Dom and a strong, feisty woman who wasn't truly a submissive but who was 'submissive for him'. Though I have heard great things about her writing, I haven't read anything by Jane Henry before. Whilst this perhaps didn't have quite so much kink/play as I would have liked, that was more than made up for with it's fast paced and interesting story line.

Zoe is a cop who accidentally discovers a secret that puts her life at risk. Brax is the private investigator determined to keep her safe. However to further complicate matters they had a one night stand, Brax is a Dom and Zoe is so very much NOT a submissive. Can Brax not only keep Zoe safe but convince her to gift him her submission? Will Zoe be able to lower her walls and give her trust to a man?

The only thing that would have made this 'better' for me, would be for the story to have been a little bit longer by having a few more scenes of BDSM or kinky play. However that doesn't mean I didn't thoroughly enjoy this book, the story or the characters with in it.

I loved, loved, LOVED that Zoe never lost her feistiness, or strength of character. Too many novels with BDSM/kink start with a strong heroine who wilts into a wet lettuce in the presence of her Dom. Zoe continued to challenge Brax through out this story and not, in my mind at least, in a bratty way. The way they forged their own path and discovered their own way to be together was fantastic, it felt really natural too.

Often in this type of story the Dom can be too overbearing and make decisions for the heroine that firmly tread on the toes of my feminist sensibilities. Brax accepted and acknowledge Zoe's own strengths and abilities. He allowed her to make decisions and be involved in her own 'saving' from danger, whilst also protecting and caring for her.

The side plots added extra depth and value to the story, complimenting the whole plot rather than distracting from it. They worked to give us extra depth on both characters, as well as allowing us to believe in their connection and relationship.

I truly believe that this book could be enjoyed by any reader who likes a well written romance story, even if BDSM/kink isn't' your usual genre. There are several 'steamy' scenes but these were tasteful and very much an organic part of the plot. Much as I love a hot and steamy read, I often end up skipping over scenes that are too frequent or too long. I didn't skip any part of this book and it is one that makes for a very pleasant afternoon read.

****~~~~BLOG TOUR~~~~**** UNTIL DADDY by Measha Stone

Carissa knows the score when it comes to relationships. They don’t last. Sure, they’re good for some fun in the short term, but that’s all. Fun. There shouldn’t be any exceptions, not even for Jamison Croft, but he’s not an easy man to shake. He blasts through every brick she lays.
He may look the gentleman in his expensive suit, but he’s anything but when it comes to Carissa.
But how can Carissa let herself ease into his dominating presence when she knows it has an expiration date?
Jamison is determined to break through her walls with his relentless care and patience. And when their bond is threatened, he will show her he’s in it for the long haul. No matter what barrier gets thrown up in his way.

MY REVIEW

A woman so used to losing out in love and the man who needs to convince her to stay

This is a DD/lg (Daddy Dom/little girl) romance, though it doesn't feature too much in the way of age play so should appeal to a wider audience. I've read Measha Stone's 'Pet' series, and the much darker 'Beast' , but this had quite a different feel to both of those. Overall it was a less challenging and much gentler read. Whilst it was a very heartwarming and romantic read, it didn't quite capture me in the same way as these other books. I haven't read Until You, featuring another couple who appear in this book. Whilst this can be read as a stand alone, there were a couple of times when I felt as though I was missing some background information. However I would rather have this than lots of spoilers for that novella.

Carissa has had a tough upbringing, a father who ran out on her and a mother with a revolving door of men. She doesn't believe in forever afters, particularly not in the kink world. Not when she's such a 'difficult' woman to not only control but to please. Jamison wants to be the man to prove her wrong, particularly when she is everything he wants and needs in a submissive. Will they get their HEA?

Both Jamison and Carissa are easy to like characters. She can be a little, hmm immature or naive isn't quite the right word, but she felt younger than her age at times. Jamison can be stern when needed but he definitely had that very caring Daddy Dom vibe, he wasn't too macho or alpha. There were one or two occasions where he almost felt overbearing, the dinner with Jade and Garrick being one. However when he discussed Carissa's behaviour with her I could appreciate where Jamison was coming from and could almost do with my own DD for when my emotions are running away with me!

I really enjoyed seeing how their dynamic worked and whilst it isn't my kink it was so well written that I could still enjoy it. Delightful as this couple were, and steamy as their chemistry was, for some reason I just wasn't enthralled by them. I enjoyed their story but it didn't captivate me. I can't pinpoint why I didn't love this as much as other books by the author, other than the perhaps the story almost lacked direction.

We started out with Carissa setting a time frame for their relationship along with her refusal to believe that love could be forever. I felt that this got lost amidst all the other stuff going on. Normally I love sub-plots, they add extra elements and depth to the story, but here I think they took away. Instead of developing the relationship and convincing me of their feelings, the plot involving Jamison's father and the separate, unresolved one involving his mother felt distracting. My focus was pulled in too many different directions.

That said I still enjoyed this and read it from cover to cover, no skimming. It has some lovely, fairly gentle kink scenes and is sexy without being too crude. Content makes it an over 18 read, and Carissa has a bit of a foul mouth, which gets her into trouble! It has left me wanting to read Jade and Garrett's story, and I'd love to see more books in this series.
When his hand made contact with her bare bottom she jumped; the sting much sharper than before. Her dress wasn’t very thick. Even with it being December in Chicago, she’d worn a thinner fabric, so it wasn’t protecting her much. His naked hand on her equally exposed bottom shouldn’t be much harder than with the flimsy material protecting her. Another swat and she jumped again. More heat spread, and he continued to reign down the fire across her bottom.
She wiggled, and kicked her ankles, both of which he stilled with hugging her closer to his body and wrapping one leg around both of hers.
“Oh! Ow!” She covered her bottom momentarily, but quickly moved it out of the way, sure that he wouldn’t hesitate to go harder on her if he felt the need.
As much as her bottom began to throb, her clit reacted in kind. The wiggling only made her need worse, and the pressure built in her lower belly aching for release.
“That’s a good girl. Almost finished.” He dragged his nails across her sore backside, making her hiss.
“Yes, sir.” She could feel the tingling and soaring sensation that only a solid spanking could bring her, and although she felt every one of the harder smacks he brought down on her, they only served to bring her to a more pleasant plane.
“There we are.” He dug his nails into her again, and she sighed, resting her head against his calf. “You did so good. And good girls get very good rewards.” He moved his leg from trapping her and pushed her outer thigh away. “Open your legs for me, Carissa, let me get to your sweetness. You need a release and have deserved it.”
She mumbled something, but she obeyed, spreading her legs and even lifting her hips from his lap to give him better access. He didn’t pull her panties aside, but rather slid his fingers beneath the thin, wet material.
“So wet for me.” With his free hand, he ran up the length of her back and sunk his fingers into her hair, fisting it and pulling back until she arched upward. “Now, keep being a good girl and fuck my fingers. Come on my lap, with your bright red ass starting up at me.” He plunged two fingers into her passage way, and she groaned with the pleasure of it.
She planted her toes on the ground and did exactly as he instructed. His fingers fucked her while she pushed against him. When a finger brushed against her clit, she groaned and began to ride his lap even harder.
“Oh! Oh god!” she gripped his leg.
“That’s my good girl, come for me, come hard.” He tugged her hair and the little bit of extra pressure, the tiniest flash of pain, and she skyrocketed over the edge that she’d been teetering. She screamed out her release, rocking harder against his thighs and riding every severe pulsation of her orgasm until finally everything stilled. Her breath began to settle, her orgasm faded silently, leaving her in a haze of genuine softness.

Measha Stone is an international bestselling author of erotic romance. She’s had #1 top-selling books in BDSM, and suspense. She lives in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and children, who are just as creative and crazy as her. Her vanilla writing has been published in numerous literary magazines, but she’s found her passion in erotic romance. She loves reading it, writing it, and living it whenever possible.

There comes a point in any combat scenario where you know you’re losing. You know your only chance of overcoming your opponent is gone. In a staged scenario, like the training sessions at the academy, you might get hit a few times but admitting defeat will usually end the session, unless you’re at the mercy of an asshole who has a bone to pick with you. In a real life situation, you know you’re going down. It’s rare that someone will actually take a fight to the death. Even the most hardened criminals often have trouble pulling the trigger, finishing the job. Most of the time it just means you’re getting a beating.
Fuck it.
I have no idea what Brax will do. All I know is he restrained me once and that didn’t end up so well for him, so the likelihood of him upping his game is pretty damn strong. He’s gonna win this one. There’s no denying that, But I’m not going down without a fight.
I struggle and try to push away, but I find that he’s taking a weird position. He’s like kneeling or something instead of trying to pin me down again. He lifts me straight up in the air like I’m a rag doll, and hauls me straight across his knees. It takes me a second to register the position I’m in before his palm smacks against my ass. I don’t even react at first, I’m so shocked at what he’s doing.
I’ve been wrestled and beaten and subdued. But hell. No one’s ever… spanked me before.
“What the fuck!” I protest, as a second vicious smack of his palm on my ass pushes the breath right out of me. “What the hell are you doing?
He doesn’t say anything. He just sorta shifts his position so that now my head is lower on the floor and my ass is higher up in the air, giving him what I’d imagine is a very clear target.
“Brax!”
In silence, he pins me down and gives me two, three, four wicked spanks.
This feels weird. I’m not sure what to do. It hurts, I can’t deny it, and I would have expected I’d feel like a kid or something, being spanked like this. He spanks me again, and again, and I can’t even fight him now. I’ve tried that and it got me nowhere. I’ve got to try another tactic.
“I’m sorry!” I manage to squeak out in between whacks of his brutal palm. “Ok, I’m sorry!”
He pauses and rests his hand on my scorched ass. He’s heaving with the effort of restraining and spanking me, and for a moment the only sound in the kitchen is both of us panting.
“Seriously. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that,” I say. Weirdly, the desire to beat the shit out of him is now gone, and I have to admit I’m actually feeling pretty subdued. What the hell happened there? “Please let me up and we can talk.”
To my surprise, I feel his hand fisting at the nape of my neck, my hair all tangled up in his fingers. He pulls my head back and his mouth is at my ear. Warm breath tickles my skin, but it’s what he says that makes me tingle. “You ever fucking pull something like that again, you’ll lose your pants and I’ll spank your bare ass. You understand me?”

MY REVIEW

This was so different to your typical 'mafia' romance and definitely in a good way

I absolutely adore London Miller's Wild Bunch and Den of Mercenaries books, so that alone was enough to stir my interest in this book. I didn't realised it was about some of the side characters from her Volkov Bratva books, and do wonder if reading them first would have enhanced my enjoyment of this. There were a few times in this story where I felt as though I had missed some information, though I did read an arc so it may simply have been that the editing had not been completed yet.

Vera is a mafia printsessa who wants nothing to do with the life, even though her father doesn't respect this. On a last minute get-away break she meets Alfie, a sexy businessman, or so she believes. Whilst she knows nothing about him, her surname tells Alfie everything he needs to know about her......and the fact that she should really be off limits to him. Back in New York, Vera never expects to hear from Alfie again, not once suspecting that not only does he live in the same city, but he moves in the same circles as her family.

I really liked Vera and Alfie, they both felt very natural, real and very believable characters. I totally bought into their relationship and the chemistry between them is undeniable. One of the unusual aspects of this book that I really liked were the scenes that had been included solely for the purpose of demonstrating to us, and convincing us of, their growing connection to each other. There were some ups and downs and plenty of spanners in the works along the way, though overall this was a fairly angst free, as well as quite a light read.

I read an arc, so I can't say if the published version is the same, but I did really struggle with the time line throughout. On quite a number of occasions I had to flick back to try and work out how long a time had elapsed between different scenes or different parts of the story. The information seemed to be conflicting at times.

The story has some really good, and unexpected, twists and turns. It had more of a contemporary romance feel to it than mafia or romantic suspense, though that should not be taken as a criticism. This is still a well written, overall easy to read and enjoyable story. It does have some violent scenes, though fairly mild given the mafia setting of the story. There are also a couple of fairly steamy scenes between Vera and Alfie, though these were both tasteful and felt a very organic part of the story.

MY REVIEW

A well written and entertaining backstory to the House of Sin series

I loved, loved, loved the House of Sin books, and couldn't miss out on this. I wasn't sure if it involved characters I knew or if they would be totally new to me. If you've read the books then you'll know who I'm referring to when I say that these were my second favourite couple. This doesn't have the darkness of the rest of the series, but it was really good to find out how Marco and Felicity first met.

The writing is excellent, as I always expect from this author, whilst the plot had plenty of depth, twists and turns. The pace held my attention throughout and I really enjoyed reading this.

I do think the House of Sin trilogy needs to be read BEFORE this. Surrender can be read as a stand alone but the threat and intrigue of the Entente isn't fully explored in this book. Even those this is set BEFORE Luc and Natalie's story, I felt it contained a few spoilers for those books.
At times the story did feel rushed, particularly the ending. I'm sure this is because of the constraints imposed by book length and this having to be a novella. Whilst I felt I got to know Marco and Felicity enough to feel a connection to them, I didn't really feel much emotional intensity and theirs was very much an instalove story.

Overall this is a good read, I liked it and would recommend it to others.

ABOUT ELISABETH NAUGHTON

: Elisabeth Naughton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Elisabeth: “I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time. “Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories. “My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier. “I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.”
