RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW Protector's Claim by Airicka Phoenix

Title: Protector’s Claim

Author: Airicka Phoenix

Genre: Dark Romance

Blurb:
Gabrielle Thornton
I made a mistake.
I allowed myself to be born. I allowed myself access into a life that wasn’t mine, and for that, I had willingly submitted my body and soul to a man whose sadistic pleasures knew no bound, a man who relished in my pain as much as he craved my flesh.
A monster I would do anything to escape.
But what if I could make it stop? What if the cost of freedom was a single night in a stranger’s arms? What if one final sin was all I needed to commit to find peace?

Kieran Kincaid
I had always known of the sickness that lived inside my father, the demons who controlled the man. His death was a blessing to every innocent he’d destroyed with his dark hunger.
Yet, despite his demise becoming my curse, a shackle trapping me in his twisted secrets, it lured me to it, too. It promised me the thing I coveted above all else. It seduced me deeper into the world I wish I knew nothing of, but there was no turning back, not even if by accepting, by taking what didn’t belong to me made me a monster like him.
Gabby would finally be mine.

MY REVIEW

5 out of 5 stars

This totally captured me from the first page. I didn't want to put it down, although at times it had me so full of emotion that I had to step away for a few minutes. I also read late into the night to finish it.

Although a lot of the subject matter is quite dark we don't witness too much first hand. The edge of your seat suspense literally had my heart pounding at times.

Gabby was such a mix of both quiet strength and determination, along with a heartbreaking vulnerability. This girls pain made me cry. Despite having chapters from his POV, I didn't feel as connected to Kieran. However he is a true alpha male and super sexy to boot.

Without revealing too much and spoiling the plot, for me the book had 4 distinct parts. That said the plot and sub plots wove a complex story throughout that merged and flowed into one amazing read. We had Gabby putting the wheels in motion on her plan. Next we had the torn between two men part. Both of these parts had such varied emotions in them and took me from tears to joy. The third part made me so delightfully anxious at times I struggled to sit still, this was where David took more control. The final part was the aftermath of part 3 BUT there was still an aweful lot more twisting and turning of plot here too. After the rest of the book I was waiting for another bombshell to hit right until the very last page.

This is the first book I've read by this author but it won't be my last.

MY REVIEW

5 out of 5 stars

This was a one sitting read. It was an "OMG I can't put this book down" read. It was a "can I give this more than 5 stars?" read. It was a "what else has this author written because I need to read them all now" read.

Dark. Twisted. Sick. Broken. Strong. Words are swirling through my head but I just can't put them together in a review that does justice to how amazing this book is.

Sophia is the victim of a despicable crime but throughout it all she strives to be anything but a victim. The world she was dragged into made her behave well outside the bounds of the law and societal norms but my word she is my new favourite bass-ass heroine. She is 'da bomb', with an steel core forged from the trials of both her childhood and her 'training' to be a slave.

"We're all monsters," I said flatly. "I just don't pretend to be sane to protect your delicate sensibilities. You want to think that you saved me. That you made me this wonderful thing. That the other girls you do this to will benefit in the end. Well, I'm here as your reminder that all you create are lies. Filthy, stinking shit covered in silk and sent out into the world to build your fortune."....
I stepped toward him and satisfaction slid through me when he backed up a step.
.....He played up what they did in his mind until he half-believed he was the shining knight he said he was.

I knew then that any HEA would be on her terms and was not going to look like unicorns and rainbows.

There are no heroes in this book, well perhaps one or two hapless ones, where being the hero shortens their lifespan. There is Cole the disturbing and twisted leader of the trio, Jackson who likes to think his actions are actually helping the girls he 'rescues', Dominic with his sadistic inclinations and Detective Aaron Jacobs. I was never really sure if any of these would be the saviour of Sophia. Not that she needed anyone to save her, but what she did need was someone to love her unconditionally.

She does get that someone in the most unexpected and twisty endings to a book that I have read in ages. This plot had me from the start - and no wonder because it kicks straight in with the 'tough stuff'. The author had a good balance between actual described scenes and implied actions. This stopped the book feeling too heavy and dark, whilst allowing it to still be gritty and intense. I also cried.

Like the fool I was, I realised that I was crying. The tears were hot as they slid down my face, and I choked on a sob, tightening my grip. The fear was still there. It still hovered around me like a thief in the night. But, for this one moment, I let myself feel that joy. Let myself feel that elusive love.

The book is well written, the characters had depth and I believed in them, even as I didn't like some of them. The pace and plot had me turning pages and unable to put the book down. I definitely need to read the rest of this authors work.

Excerpt 2:

“Do you still hate us?” he asked when the credits were rolling.
I glanced up, tracing the faint scar at his hairline with my eyes. A memento of that ill-fated night. He’d never said anything about that time. Never berated or raged. It hadn’t even affected the way he treated me. He was just Dominic.
Sweet, cruel Dominic.
“Yes,” I said. I didn’t bother trying to soften the word. “I’ll always hate you for what you did. But now I love you all, too. It blurs the lines a bit.”
The corners of his eyes crinkled with his smile. He was getting older. I could see bits of silver at his temples now that I thought to look. Did he notice? Worry? Care?
Probably not. His life didn’t depend on his looks, after all.
“You love me?” he asked, the teasing evident in his light, lilting tone.
In answer, I leaned forward and kissed him, letting our tongues tangle and glide against each other. His teeth grazed my lower lip and I shuddered and broke away.
“Yes. I love you.”
The light slowly dimmed from his velvety brown eyes until he was serious once more. “But not like you love Cole,” he said. No reproach to his words. No jealousy.
I laughed, and almost winced at how brittle and caustic the sound was. “It’s impossible to love anyone that same way I love Cole,” I said. “There’s too much loathing mixed in with it to be matched by anyone else. Be glad I don’t love you like I do him.”
Dom’s hand reached up to cup my cheek and for some reason the gesture struck me as so tender and loving that I felt tears sting behind my eyes. I blinked them back, refusing to show such weakness.
It was beneath me to cry.
I was a warrior.
A fighter.
“I’ll always be here, sweetheart,” he murmured, kissing my forehead. “When he breaks you, I’ll always pick up the pieces.”
I leaned into him, luxuriating in his heat and steadiness. My gentle beast. My savage gentleman.

***BLOG TOUR *** IN TOO DEEP by Jordan Marie

I did a bad thing.

I did a really bad thing.

I’m not a bad person, I swear. I just made a few mistakes.

Mistake number one was agreeing to rent my hotel out to an insufferable a**hole, named Aden Smith.

Mistake number two was ignoring his threats to sue me when he handed over a list of items he deemed “unacceptable”.

Mistake number three was diving into the pool to save his life when he fell. It would have been less complicated to hide his body.

When the hospital refuses to let me know how he is, I panic.

Claiming to be his wife might be my biggest mistake yet—especially when he believes me!

He might have been the one drowning, but I’m sinking in a bed of lies, going down fast—and there’s not a rescue in sight.

Aden
I planned to apologize. Really—I did. I was dreading it. In my experience when you apologize to a woman you show them weakness, and with weakness they smell blood. It never ends well. Still, I shouldn’t have said what I did about her. I was going to the office to say I’m sorry, see if there was literature about where I can find a place with take-out food and leave—quickly.
One thing stops me.
I open the door to the office and this small boy comes running out at me, completely naked. He slaps his hands against my legs, just reaching above my knee. I stop quickly so I don’t plow him over.
“You my Daddy?” he asks. I know nothing about kids, but I do know one of the last things I ever want to hear from one are those words. His question strikes fear in my heart, but the fact his hands are covered in some dark brown unknown substance terrifies me. I watch as it smears across the legs of my favorite jeans. I’m not sure what it is, but he’s not wearing any clothes—including a diaper. Do kids his size wear diapers?
“Jack! You get back here right now young man!”
“Daddy!”
The child screams the name like it’s being torn from his heart, the moment White’s cousin captures him in her arms and pulls him away. The scream is so piercing I wince.
“Do you need something?” she asks over the noise. Her face instantly hardens, whereas just a moment ago she was smiling, even chasing after her son.
“Does he belong to you?” I ask, all thoughts of giving an apology gone. My voice is that of a growl really. It seems this woman brings out the worst in me.
“I—”
“He destroyed my clothes.”
Her eyes go round and briefly I notice she has brown eyes…almost as dark as whatever the child rubbed all over me.
“Daddy!” he screams again, and the woman’s face blushes a deep red.
“Hush, Jack. That’s not your Daddy,” she hisses.
“He doesn’t know who his father is?” I don’t bother keeping the censure out of my voice. This entire revelation doesn’t surprise me. I’m making a mental note to punch White in the face the next time I see him.
“It’s just chocolate. It will come out of your pants. You should probably flush it with club soda or…”
“Do I look like I do laundry?”
“Well—”
“Does your hotel even have laundry service?”
“There’s a laundry mat in town,” she says defensively.
“Charming.”
“Daddy!” the child screams again.
“Listen, Jack and I were—”
“Wrestling in chocolate?”
“Is there something you need?” she all but growls, her face tight with irritation.
