Blurb

When a man pays for my body, I shut off my emotions, close my eyes, and force myself to push through. No thinking. No feeling. No breaking apart.

Soon the debts will be paid. Soon I'll scrub their cologne and sweat from my skin and walk away from this business for good, pretending it never happened.

For now, my body is not my own. For now, I belong to any man who can afford me.

But when Derrick LaClaire asks for a night with me, I turn him away, even when he offers to pay triple what I earn per hour. I need his cash, but if I let him touch me, I know I'll break every single one of my rules. And he'll discover who I really am.

LaClaire Touch is a steamy full-length, standalone novel with a happy ending.

My Review

This book had so much potential but I felt let down on too many points to rate it any higher than 3 stars and describe it as "yeah, it's o.k."

The technical writing (i.e. could I read it, did it make sense, was the grammar correct) etc was excellent, the plot flowed well and I loved the idea's behind the book. Brooke was well written but Derrick was a bit cardboard cutout, although he grew on me as the book progressed. It was decent enough for me to bother to finish reading the book, although it was a close run thing.

I had 3 main 'issues' with the story.

1 - The biggest thing for me was that I didn't believe that Derrick and Brooke were in love. Although they did have history from high school, it wasn't like they'd had some huge romance then, and they only had the briefest of encounters now when Derrick PAID for sex with Brooke/Ruby! There were no passionate, emotion filled encounters just sex and then sex again.

2 - Whilst he was supposedly obsessing over Ruby, Derrick committed the second biggest problem for me when he had sex with other women - including another prostitute. OK not cheating as they aren't together but not what I want in a romance novel. Whilst I can accept Brooke's choice to be a prostitute, I'm couldn't really respect the hero using them for his main 'source' of sex. Not to mention as a young, good looking and extremely rich man he would surely not need to pay.

3 - The final thing was that important parts of the plot were rushed through and then 'filler' scenes were used to bulk the story. The shocking revelation - and boy it was a good one - is revealed and resolved in the final two chapters of the book, then we have an epilogue vaguely set 'several years later' when actually there was the potential for more chapters on Ruby and Derrick living and coping with the unexpected change in their lives.
