Thief: A Second Chance Romance - Arriving January 9th!

I can't wait for the 9th of January when 'Thief' by Aubrey Irons will be re-released.  Check out the cover below.

Here's my review of Sinner, another book in the Shelter Harbor series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.  It was full of heat, conflict and humour.

This is written from both POV's, which worked well, as both main characters grew during the story.  I didn't feel that decisions were 'out of character' because we had seen the thoughts and feelings that led to them being made.

The story had good pace, was written in a very easy to read style and had some amazing characters.  Not all were nice but they were all interesting and rounded.  The dialogue was natural and the two main characters were not only likable but also believable.

My only issue was Eva saying 'oh my God' as often as she did.  A girl raised in such a religious household wouldn't say it.  Unless this was the author showing us the fire and independence hidden inside Eva.  My apologies to the author if this is the case, but I'm not great at analysing literature.

Overall this was a fun and engaging read.  I cared about Rowan (swoon) and Eva.  I got frustrated, at times, by Eva (but her decisions reflected her upbringing) and really wanted them to be happy.

GREEN (CLASHING COLORS) by ELIN PEER

Oh my, I have discovered a new favourite author.  The only negative/disappointing thing about this book is that I can only give it 5 stars ...... I would happily give it 500.

This book took me on an emotional roller coaster and had me begging for a HEA for Melody and Christian.  The author writes emotions so amazingly well, and so accurately, that my heart felt like it was breaking a few times.  I loved both the Hero and Heroine, they are real, imperfect and captivating characters.

The book is written 1st person from both POV's, allowing you to understand their decisions, emotions and mistakes.  I liked how we learnt about their dysfunctional families, but this wasn't harped on about as the excuse for everything they did.  There were subtle examples of how it affected their behaviour but it wasn't overdone.

The writing is incredible, the plot fairly simple but a perfect complement to the complex emotions and all the characters are interesting and well developed.  The book was not only easy to read but kept me gripped from beginning to end.  There is no huge mystery, no threat or subterfuge, just an amazing and captivating (but never simple) romance.

I'm off now to read the first two books in the series, and any other books by this author as I am feeling withdrawal symptoms already.

How dare he? How dare he come into my store, The Green Vegan Shop, with a t-shirt saying: I didn’t claw myself to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables? I get it. He’s a Chef and meat lover, but does he have to flash it in my face every time he shops here? Honestly, I try to be nice to everyone. I’m a vegan after all. We’re nice people… but this guy gets under my skin. Like a tick. And brings out the feisty redhead lurking inside me. He is easily the most infuriating, selfish, and cruel bastard in the city of Seattle.Melody is proving to herself and the world that she has what it takes to run a successful business, based on sustainability and fair trade. Her family thinks she should be focusing on starting a family since she’s already thirty-two, and she is trying. But even with the help of an agency it seems impossible to find a decent man who matches her criteria and has what it takes to excite her. It’s not that’s she’s frigid, it’s just that she’s attracted to the wrong man.

EERIE - a paranormal novel by C M McCoy

There is nothing I enjoy reading quite as much as a fantasy/paranormal book. As it is holiday time, I have managed to read a few more books than normal, and have been trying to add in a few 'new-to-me' authors.

Yesterday I finished reading an amazing book by C M McCoy, 'EERIE'.  It has hints of Harry Potter (no Wizards in this book though), plenty of mythological creatures from different cultures and a side order of clean romance (always love a bit of romance) all set in the everyday world we know.

This is my review of Eerie - I gave it the full 5 stars on both Amazon and also Goodreads.

The only thing young adult about this book, is the age of the heroine and the absence of sexx scenes.  The depth of emotion, the weaving of the tale and the exciting story line are enough to engage readers of any age.  This book had me hooked from the start and it seemed like every few pages there was something new to be learnt.

At times Hailey was a little naive, but this was totally in keeping with her age - and actually it worked better than a sheltered 18 year old suddenly becoming super confident and mature.

There were so many ups and downs and fluctuations between two possible heroes, that i felt dizzy, but in a wonderful 'dragged along on an amazing and thrilling adventure' way.  There was plenty of humour, so many scenes that required a hankie, hope and despair, love and hate.  The characters are really well written, the story not only flowed well but captivated me to the extent that i was still reading it at 1 am on Christmas morning and, as soon as I could, I completed it on Christmas Day.

Possible spoiler but I will keep it as vague as possible - my only disappointment was that the dream meetings suddenly seemed to stop - or at least they weren't mentioned much in later parts of the book.  This was a very minor thing, but it just seemed odd.

The ending blew me away on so many levels, and the revelations in the last few chapters will make your head spin.  this is obviously part of a series of books, so although this part of the tale has an ending the overall story isn't finished.  I am desperate to know when the nest book will be released as I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Excerpt
I received my prize as it came bounding out from the clothing that bound it away from the rest of the world. His manhood throbbed, standing almost straight up from his thigh thick and hard. His smooth, warm shaft throbbed out lightly, bent only slightly at the tip, but otherwise straight as it stood nearly straight out towards me, almost beckoning me to touch. His hardness evident on how much he wanted it as well, his girth thick enough I worried whether I could fit it in my mouth.

Screw him and his perfect resume.
And flawless face.
And delicious body.
And probably game-winning stamina. I’m going to be a mess today just thinking about it.
“Why was he in your office?” Macie asks, right as I was ready to mentally remove his clothes. “Oh my God, Danielle! I just pulled him up. Why can’t I be you? Just for a day?”
“I’m quite happy I’m me today,” I laugh. “He just walked off the elevator on the wrong floor and followed me to my office.”
“Why?”
“Does it matter? Now I’m sitting here with wet panties, his ‘Fuck me’ cologne filling my office, and all sorts of ideas as to what his body looks like under those sweatpants and t-shirt.”

The bell chimes as the front door closes behind me. I’m to my car in record speed. I need space. I need air. I need to think. When my phone buzzes right before I pull out of the parking lot, I know it’s Pepper and she’s not going to quit until I give her something to occupy her mind.
“Fine!” I nearly shout into the phone. “His cock is about ten inches, if I’m guessing, and he fucked me in about every position I could explain. My favorite, though, was the corkscrew. Not sure what that is? Google it.”
My finger goes to swipe off the call when I see the name on the screen and drop the phone. “Shit!” I cry, digging through the items on my passenger’s side floorboard until I find the glowing device.
My heart is pounding as I try to decide whether to end the call or talk to Lincoln. Mortified, I bring it to my ear and squeeze my eyes shut. He’s silent.
Maybe he didn’t hear. Please, God, don’t let him have heard that.
“Hello?” I eke out.
“I’d say ten inches is fair and I’ve made a note about the corkscrew. Glad I called,” he chuckles.

Why they call it a farmhouse is beyond me. That word paints an image of a little white house with a chicken coop. This is a Southern plantation. A huge, wide porch with pillars looks to encompass the entire place. Mums line whiskey barrels and give the clean exterior pops of burgundy, orange, and yellow. It’s breathtaking.
“This is gorgeous,” I breathe as it comes into full view. “Not what I expected.”
“This is my second favorite place in the world,” he whispers against my ear.
“Second? What could be more perfect that this?”
“Inside you.”
Before he can pull away, I turn my face so my lips capture his. He deepens the kiss, our lips working against one another in perfect harmony. As we pull away, breathless, he grins. “Thank you for coming.”
“I’ll ensure you come later,” I promise.
“Naughty girl,” he chuckles as the car rolls to a stop. “I like it.”
“You will.”

FOR ALL THE EVERS - BOOSTER POST

I wrote about this book a few days ago.  It wasn't quite the book I was expecting but it was a lovely romance, very easy to read and immensely enjoyable to boot.

It is dedicated to the author's great uncle (his name and other details were used for the hero) who died during the Second World War.  I found it such an intriguing and heart-warming idea to commemorate an individual in this way.

What I've only just cottoned onto is that if you take the initial letter of each word in the title you get another word 'FATE'.  And that is what the book is all about.

Fallen Billow should be in college like most of her friends, but instead she’s raising her brother and working as a housekeeper at a vintage local hotel. It’s back-breaking work, but not nearly as challenging as fending off unwanted advances from the hotel’s owner.

Thomas McHugh is fighting for our country, across the globe and decades before Fallen Billow was even born. So there’s no way they’re soul mates. There’s no way he can be desperate to see her, hold her, kiss her. Except there is.

Is it a dream when he inks his name on her skin? Is it a delusion when she puts her hands on his face and says she loves him? Nothing has ever felt more real.

Fate has etched paths for Thomas and Fallen that even time cannot touch. A Purple Heart proclaims Thomas’ valor and bravery. And his death. But Fallen dares to dream of the impossible. She wants Thomas to stay. Just stay.

A tribute to all who have served our country, this novel honors the impossible beauty of love and the endless power of hope. Come open your heart and celebrate the many facets of bravery with Fallen and Thomas.

“I bet you were adorable.” He put his knuckle under her chin and encouraged her to lift her head. She rolled back over and settled against his shoulder.
“I don’t want to be adorable. I want to be impossible.”
“How do you mean?” He kissed her forehead.
“I want to be impossible for you to forget, impossible for you to keep your hands off of.” She leaned up for a kiss.
“You’re my impossible then. Have no fear.” He tenderly reminded her he was her impossible, too, with his lips.
She put her hand against his stomach and snuggled in. “This is my spot. Right here. With you—it’s home.”
He swallowed before talking to the ceiling. “My heart was like a fist. Where I am? It’s not a place you plan to survive. I’ve been there for years, and it’s not about skill; it’s not even about luck. You get strapped into a machine, and fate’s driving. You can’t get out even if you want to. So you submit to it. You harden your soul. You get ready to die.”
He shifted, rolling on top of her. She sighed in contentment. Being beneath him made her feel safe and secure.
He kissed her lips, then the tip of her nose, before continuing. “But with you, it’s like my heart’s opening up, and I’m terrified to feel, after all this time. Yet I don’t have a choice. No matter where I am, I draw your face whenever I get a scrap of paper.”
He laughed a little. “We found a puppy, and I named it Fallen, just so I could say your name over and over. The guys think I’m crazy—such a strange name for a dog. But I don’t care. I’m gasping for you every moment I’m awake. And I’m making choices to keep me alive through the week.”
His eyes searched hers. “What if I’m not as tough as I was in the beginning? God, I hope no one is affected by my distraction with this. But in the end there’s you. Only you. Do what you have to to get back to me when you’re awake. You have to. I need you more than air, more than life right now. The softness of you, the tenderness in your eyes when you see me. I’m trying to force fate to throw me in your direction. To hurl me at you somehow. I don’t know if it will work. But I’m praying for it.”
Fallen touched his face, then his neck. “I will do everything I can to find you.”
