About Eva

A confirmed city-girl, Eva moved to rural Western Massachusetts in 2014. She found herself living in the woods with no job, no friends (unless you count the turkey, deer, and coyote roaming the backyard), and no children underfoot, wondering what on earth she had been thinking. But as it turned out, it was the perfect setting to take all those yarns spinning in her head and weave them into steamy love stories. A romantic at heart, Eva looks forward to date night all week. The perfect evening includes well-crafted cocktails, a fabulous perfume, Cherry Garcia ice cream, and her husband, of course. If you add good friends, live jazz, and impossible shoes, she will follow you anywhere. Eva holds a BA from Boston College, and a JD from the Washington College of Law. She spent a career working in domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and civil rights. Aspects of this work often find their way into her books. When she's not writing sexy stories, trying to squeeze information out of her tight-lipped sons, or playing with the two cutest dogs you've ever seen, Eva's creating chapters in her own love story.

BOOK REVIEW - 5+ STARS ~~~~ THE BOY AND HIS HOPE by Pepper Winters

TS&HH - RB banner.jpg

The Son and His Hope,

a sweeping standalone from New York Times Bestselling author Pepper Winters is live!

ebook.jpg

“Things you should know about me from the very beginning:
I was born to true love, witnessed the destruction it causes, and vowed never to let such agony happen to me. I am not a story-teller like my father. I am not a writer like my mother. I am just a son—their son.

I am happy being alone.

And that is all I ever want to be.”

JACOB
The day he was born, Jacob learned his hardest and longest lesson.
It wasn’t a lesson a boy should learn so young, but from his earliest memories he knew where happiness lives, so does tragedy. Where love exists, so does heartbreak. And where hope resides, so does sorrow.
That lesson carved him from the kid to the teen to the man.
And nothing and no one could change his mind.

HOPE
I first met him when he was fourteen at a movie premiere of all places. A movie based on his parent’s life.
He was stoic, strong, suspicious, and secretive.
I was only ten, but I felt something for him. A strange kind of sorrow that made me want to hug and heal him.
I was the daughter of the actor hired to play his father.
We shared similarities.
I recognised parts of him because they were parts of me.
But no matter how many times we met. No matter how many times I tried.
He stayed true to his vow to never fall.

My Review 5+ Stars

All I'm saying is like father, like son. Both of them smashed my heart to smithereens whilst making me fall totally and utterly in love with them

On paper, when you look at the basis of this story, it could so easily be one of those over emotional, angst-filled-for-the-sake-of-it, too-much-repetitive-back-and-forth books. Instead the amazing penmanship, world-building and character development of the author makes this a book that will stay with you a long time after you finish the last page. This book took me some time to read, both because it is long AND because sometimes I just couldn't see for the tears. If it made Pepper Winters half as emotional to write this, as it made me feel reading it, I'm surprised she ever managed to complete the book.

To experience the full impact of this story, the one that eviscerates your heart, you really need to have read The Ribbon Duet first. That way you will understand Jacob's family and why, even as a child, he was so broken by life. You will forgive that he makes you want to shake him until he listens, whilst at the same time your heart bleeds for his self-inflicted pain.

This book, like it's predecessor, made me cry so much I had to step away at times, just to gather the pieces of my shattered soul together and forge the strength to read some more. Like it's predecessor it will also stay with me in a way very few other books have. As will Jacob and Hope, who have carved a little space inside my heart and will rest there alongside Ren and Della.

If I was going to be critical I might say that the 17 year old Hope didn't feel 17, she felt much older.
However her back story had been crafted in such a way that it felt entirely possible that she would be more mature and eloquent than many girls of her age. Her whole life had been spent in the company of adults, with few interactions with other children.

I had no backbone but only because he's stolen it. Just like He'd stolen my lungs, my heart,
my soul. He'd stolen them so many years ago, yet he didn't want them.
He'd never asked for them or given his in return. And although I ached for a heart and
begged for a soul and wished for a backbone, I had no idea how to claim them back.

Oh and the push and pull between Jacob and Hope, the passion, the pain and the fury. It held me spellbound, it held me in the moment there with them. These two feel like so much more than words on paper, they are living, breathing, sweating, crying, loving people with such spirit that they must surely exist someplace somewhere.

Lace and a silver locket will now sit alongside blue ribbon as one of those images that triggers a thousand thoughts, feelings and memories. Despite the struggle and hard work of getting to the end of the story (both for the characters AND me) it was such a worthwhile journey in the end. It was so perfect even in all it's brokenness and pain.

I did my best to laugh when all I wanted to do was cry.
I'd lost.
I'd failed.
It was over.

I'm now going to have a long lie down in a very dark room whilst I recover.

  EXCERPT:

She’d never been to this beach. She didn’t know if it was somewhere in Argolea—the blessed realm created by Zeus for the ancient heroes’ ancestors—or if she was somewhere in the human realm. All she knew was that she liked it. She liked how peaceful it was. Liked how breathtaking the scenery was. Liked that here—wherever she’d taken herself this time—no one was telling her what to do or pressuring her to be something she wasn’t.

“I’d say you look lost, but something tells me you are exactly where you want to be,” a deep male voice said at her back. Kara whipped around, her long blonde hair blocking her vision before she brushed it aside, and stared at the man reclined on a padded chaise lounge on the beach.

A man and chaise that hadn’t been there only moments before. A man who was vaguely familiar though she couldn’t figure out why. “I...who are you?” she asked. “Who do you want me to be?” His question made her blink. Who did she want him to be? She had no idea. All she knew was that an odd heat was building inside her. One she’d never experienced before.

When he only continued to stare at her, she narrowed her eyes, running her gaze from his thick dark hair down his very muscular body. With his hands clasped behind his neck, his expression expectant, he looked relaxed and just the slightest bit amused. But there was a mysterious glint to his blue-green eyes that belied his stress-free exterior. And though he was gorgeous—tall, dark, and handsome in every way with that chiseled jaw, lush lips, and mesmerizing eyes—something in the back of her mind warned her to be careful.

“Where did you come from?” she asked hesitantly. “We both know you weren’t here two seconds ago.” One side of those perfect lips curled. “I’m sure if you concentrate, you’ll know exactly where I came from, Zakara.” She didn’t like his riddles. And she didn’t like that he knew her name when she was still struggling to figure out who he was and why he was so familiar. But the longer he stared at her, the warmer she grew. And as his words circled in her head, it suddenly hit her like a baseball bat right to the forehead.

“You’re that guy...” Her eyes grew wide with disbelief. “From my dreams.” He chuckled—a low, deep, captivating sound that was too perfect to be real. “That I am.”

My Review - 4.5 stars

A hot, fast paced and wonderful read

It's been a while since I real an Eternal Guardians novel, so I was very much looking forward to Ensnared.  It really didn't disappoint either.  Whilst this can be read as a stand alone story, reading the other EG novels will enhance your enjoyment of this.

The shortness of the book means a balance has to be made between world-building, plot development and characters.  The book really focuses on Ryder (H) and Kara (h) so that we can get a good picture of them.  I did feel a connection to the main characters, there was plenty of emotional depth and an exciting story line.  However it did feel a little rushed at times, just because there was so much that needed fitting into this novella.

Ryder and Kara are very easy to like characters and their chemistry was off the charts.  The plot had some interesting twists and easily held my attention throughout.  In fact I read this straight through in one evening.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it to lovers of fantasy/paranormal romance.  It's left me wanting the author to write more full length novels in this series!

ABOUT ELISABETH NAUGHTON: Elisabeth Naughton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Elisabeth: “I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time. “Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories. “My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier. “I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.”

My Review - 5 stars

At present this is a review for the intro, Jennifer Bene's book, Hooked and Switched, by Livia Grant.

Introduction Scene - 4.5 stars

Wow this was almost an entire story in and off itself! We get the very heated, in more ways than one, meeting at Black Light West to arrange the event, then we get a very different view of the Valley Girl that is Madison.

This totally drew me into the story, it sets up some stories for more than just what you will enjoy in Celebrity Roulette . I loved the dynamic between Jaxon and Chase, and it was good to catch up with characters we have met in more recent books.

Hooked, by Jennifer Bene - 5 stars

This was one red hot read, with a hero very unlike the usual hard-ass and even anti-hero men we are used to from this author. That isn't to say that Wyatt isn't all Dom, but it was good to read about one with deep empathy skills and his own worries. It made him so very real and easy to connect with.
Whilst Vanessa had some self-worth issues, which Wyatt definitely started to 'beat' out of her, she was still a very strong character. Both mentally and physically. The chemistry and connection between them was intense and totally believable. They drew me in to this story and I read it late into the night, just to finish it in one sitting.
We are treated to some VERY hot and sexy BDSM scenes. There is nothing too boundary pushing but they are still very powerful and potent.

Switched, by Livia Grant - 5 stars
I've never read a book where the heroine is a Domme, mainly because the idea doesn't appeal. I guess it's because I like my men rough, tough and alpha to the core. However this story has gone a long way to changing my mind. It was hot, sexy and emotional too.
Piper, the heroine, is known as Mistress Ice and that describes her usual emotions too. Nolan is the Dom who can't forget the night he spent with her a few years ago. He wants a chance to explore the connection he feels they have, or at least an opportunity for closure. So he submits, or at least tries his best to, for a night with the woman of his dreams.
We get some intense scenes, a lot of chemistry and a very open end that promises we will see more of Piper and Nolan. I can't wait to learn even more about this pair, both characters had good depth and I really felt their emotions. They are something very special together and this was a wonderful introduction to them both.

If the rest of the book is of a similar quality then this is going to be one amazing read!

Excerpt

Hooked by Jennifer Bene

Humor flashed in his eyes, a slight crinkling at the corners before he nodded. “I think I understand.” His thumb stroked up and down the column of her throat, but his grip never tightened, there was just a little more… pressure. “You think because you’re in the ballet that you’re somehow less than the other celebrities involved in the auction?”
“Well, they’re actual celebrities, so… there’s that.” A quiet laugh almost escaped her lips, but then his grip really did tighten. Higher on her throat now, just under her jaw, and he used the hold to tilt her head back again until his face filled her view.
“Let me add on to your friend’s requirements. While we’re playing tonight, you won’t refer to ballet, or yourself, in a negative way or you’ll earn a punishment, and it will be one you don’t enjoy. Understood?”
“Yes, sir,” she whispered, practically breathless, but that had a lot less to do with his relatively gentle hold on her throat and a lot more to do with the arousal currently buzzing through her bloodstream and concentrating the pulse between her thighs.
“Wonderful.” He removed his hand and smiled again. “Thank you for your trust.”
“Trust?” she echoed.
“Yes. Not every sub will let you touch their throat like that without proving yourself first, establishing the trust. I appreciate that you gave me that on faith alone. You trusted that I would keep you safe, and I swear that I will.” Wyatt’s smile changed a bit, widening into a grin that made him seem a lot less serious, more… playful. “That doesn’t mean I won’t hurt you, though. I admit that I’m looking forward to pulling some of those sweet cries from your lips myself.”
And, boom.
The pulse between her thighs turned into an all-out fire, which didn’t help the fact that she already felt too hot in the stifling room.

Neron Rising
Keary Taylor
(The Neron Rising Saga #1)
Publication date: November 27th 2018
Genres: Adult, Romance, Science Fiction
“I…am nothing.”
He takes a step forward, shaking his head twice, with absolute conviction. “You’re not nothing, Nova.”

In the Eon galaxy, Dominion controls any planet with solid Neron deposits, and Nova just found out they’re coming for hers. Korpillion isn’t supposed to have any Neron—the galaxy’s purest form of energy—but Nova Ainsley has been working with the owner of a secret mine for months, building highly illegal weapons that can wield Neron. She wants off Korpillion, and selling these weapons will buy her and her father a ticket to another planet in the galaxy.
Neron is incredible on its own, but there are those who can wield it to their will, granting them the ability to read minds, see the future, and destroy worlds—the Nero. But this is a galaxy where they are ceasing to exist, and Dominion owns the last one in the known universe, using him to take over and destroy billions of lives.
An encounter with the last Nero shows Nova her future: it’s with him. She will stand by his side one day, her fingers laced through his, love and adoration in both their eyes, a dark queen to his evil, pawn king.
Fate or destiny, Nova will do whatever it takes to change their future, and that of the galaxy.
The Neron Rising Saga is a series of episodes. Episode One is 30,000 words. Neron Rising is a slow-burn space-fantasy romance.

EXCERPT:
“What’s wrong?”
I look out over the city, and I can see everything that’s wrong. All these people. Suddenly I feel responsible for all of them. “Have you ever had a secret?” I ask.
“I don’t know a single person who doesn’t have secrets,” he answers. His voice is so calm. There’s this low, deep timbre to it. There’s something about it that’s unique. I’ve never heard a voice that sounds like his.
“Well, have you ever had a secret that would affect billions of people?”
My stomach twists in knots just at the thought of it.
“I can’t say that I ever have had a secret of that scale,” he confesses. “Surely, you don’t actually mean billions.”

I huff one short laugh and nod my head. “Actually, I do. And the thing that sucks about it is that I could tell people, but it would create so much chaos, I might actually make things worse. I hate that. I hate it so much, because it makes me feel responsible.”
“One person can’t be held accountable for billions,” he says. His words are like a soft touch, like a hand on my back, rubbing for comfort and support.
“Sure they can,” I argue, even though I want to accept his words. I’m in a self-depreciating spiral right now, and I have no intent to get myself out of it at the moment. “Look at Cyrillius. He’s destroyed trillions of lives. And he doesn’t even feel guilty about it.”

Just saying his name makes my mouth taste bitter. As the heir and owner of Dominion, he makes all the calls that affect every single solar system. He could make the galaxy a better place. He could stop the centuries of greed and money. But he’s only taken things twenty steps further than his father and his grandfather before him.
“Seems like a little bit of a jump, comparing yourself to him,” he says quietly. “Just a few days ago you were complaining about your boring life, and now you’re hiding a secret that could affect everyone on your planet?”
“Pretty insane how quickly life can change,” I muse. Though, really, nothing has changed at all. Other than now I have to figure out how to get me and my dad, and Zayne, off-planet. “Know of anywhere good left in the galaxy?”
“Suddenly you’re also ready to move planet?” he asks. There’s a thoughtful probe to his tone.
I shrug, even though he can’t see it. “Know of any place?”

This is where I hate this part of our connection. I hear his voice. But that’s it. I can’t read his body language. I get impressions sometimes, but I don’t know if those are real, or my brain filling them in.
I want to read his face right now. I want to have something to fill these longer pauses, to decipher what he’s thinking.
But I have nothing but his voice, echoing in my brain.

“Do you really think there’s any such thing as a good place, anymore?” he finally asks.
I consider his question as I look out at Korpillion.
This is supposed to be a good place. But, as I look at it, I see the race for credits. I see advertisements flashing bright in my face. I see businessmen talking to prostitutes who are only interested in their connect-link accounts. I see jobs, so many of them, that no one takes pride in, they just do it because it allows them to survive.
I think of Reena, whose goal isn’t to save anyone but herself and her crew.
I even think of my dad, who has no joy in life. He just puts his head down and survives.

“I don’t know, anymore,” I say. I hate the confession, but I am honestly not sure.
“I’ve been to a lot of places, and all I’ve seen everywhere is the innate drive to survive,” he says into my head. “People will do whatever it takes to survive.”
“I wonder when we lost everything else,” I say. “The few books that were stored before all of that was lost talk about all these other things, these principals. Honor, glory, love. When did we become a galaxy full of survivors?”

He doesn’t answer, because really there isn’t an answer. These are just the deep thoughts spoken out loud between two strangers connected by a power neither of us understands.
“I wish I was there with you,” he surprises me with his honest words.
I straighten a little, and a smile creeps onto my face. “I wish you were here, too.” I pause, letting that confession fill me. “Do you think we could ever meet in real life?”
He takes a considering pause. “I think we have to be careful what we wish for, sometimes.”
