Happy Hour, an all-new hilarious enemies to lovers romance from USA Today bestselling duo Piper Rayne is available NOW!

PRHappyHourBookCover5x8_BW_300

The perfect man for her is the one she hates most. #gofigure
Dating is hard.
Dating in your thirties is even harder.
Dating in Chicago is harder still.
I haven't given up on finding my happily-ever-after, but in the age of swiping right and Netflix and chill, I'm wondering if everything is as temporary as my marriage turned out to be.
Truth is, there is one guy I can't get my mind off of.
Roarke Baldwin has salt and pepper hair I've dreamed of running my hands through and I'm pretty sure that if I checked he really does have a six pack of abs underneath his suit. And I've always wondered what that stubble on his face would feel like between my thighs.
The problem? He's the one man I hate more than my ex-husband…
His divorce attorney.

My Review - 4 stars

A fun, light-hearted, fast paced and sexy read - 3.5 stars

I have been a fan of this pair since the beginning, Lennon will always be my #favouritebookbestie.
However by the time I read The Manny, despite the still very good writing, things started to feel a little repetitive and I took a break from them. I've eventually found my way back with this book, and whilst it wasn't quite "laugh out loud and get strange looks" funny, it totally caught my interest, drew me in and was one really good rom-com.

I'm not sure where the Happy Hour title comes from, other than the heroine and her two work colleague besties sometimes go to a members only club. Hannah is a trust fund girl but doesn't enjoy the trust fund lifestyle. Having been stomped all over and taken to the cleaners by her ex-husband she has sworn off romantic entanglements. Instead she is going to concentrate on her charity that helps young girls learn they have a voice that should be heard.

Roarke is the hot, silver fox lawyer who wants to persuade Hannah to give him a chance. Only trouble being he is the lawyer who represented her scumbag cheating ex. A venue catastrophe and a 5 favour deal lead to some very interesting times. Can Hannah not only forgive Roarke but also learn to trust another man with her heart?

Oh the snark and banter between Hannah and Roarke was huge fun, not to mention Hannah's internal musings. This pair had amazing chemistry and the book felt very steamy, despite there being no bump and grind action until around/after the half way point.

I loved Hannah and at first hated Roarke. However as we get to know more about him we see he isn't quite the awful man he was at first painted. He was just a man doing his job, though I would have liked to see more of a discussion/issue over what is legally allowed and what is morally right. Fighting to ensure that the cheating partner gets all they are entitled too didn't sit well with me.

I prefer dual POV in romance books, I didn't feel much of a connection to Roarke as we only ever hear Hannah's 'voice'. Even just a few chapters would have helped. When we get the cliched 'break up', I didn't really feel the emotion. It wasn't quite angsty or sad enough to earn more stars BUT it was still one very enjoyable read.

Excerpt:

I press the numbers on my phone with shaky fingers, bringing the receiver up to my ear and release a deep breath. He picks up after one ring.

“I thought we were friends? Having your assistant call my assistant. Tsk. Tsk, Ms. Crowley.” Aggravation fuses together every cell in my body until I become an impenetrable wall. “First, we are not friends. Second, I would prefer to talk to you via our office phones.”

There’s a brief second of silence where he’s probably realizing I called him through my office line. “Ahh… so now you have my number and I don’t have yours? That seems terribly unfair.” “I didn’t realize you cared about fairness?” I lean back in my chair and cross my legs. “You don’t know that much about me. It’s not like you know me intimately.” He lowers his voice on the last word and drags it out. I roll my eyes, happy we’re not face-to-face so he can’t see the flush in my cheeks.

“You may have witnessed how I own the courtroom, but you know nothing about my private life. For instance, you don’t know if I like thrillers or comedies. Whether I prefer sorbet to ice cream or if I wear boxers or briefs.” “I don’t need to know those things,” I say with frustration, shutting my eyes to rid the vision from my head of him in tight black boxer briefs—since that’s my preference.

“You want to know though.” A sexual innuendo pours out of his mouth and hits its mark between my thighs. “There you go making assumptions about my wants.” I pick up my pen, shuffling through paperwork. Anything to distract me from this ache. “I not only know what you want, I know what you need, Ms. Crowley.” I smack my hand down on my desk. “Okay Rico Suave, let’s talk about this venue you have access to and keep the discussion of undergarments for another time.”

A beeping sound interrupts us. “Hold all my calls please, Kristen.” Then nothing for a moment. “Sorry about that but you know how busy I am.” “Yes, I’m sure destroying people’s lives takes a lot of time. So let’s stop the sexual innuendos and get down to business.” “Let’s meet tonight. You frequent Torrio’s. I frequent Torrio’s. Let’s do something crazy and have a drink together.”

“I don’t need a drink at Torrio’s, Mr. Baldwin, I need a venue to house my gala. Now tell me your terms and I want the details of this venue you insist you can secure. I refuse to meet you until you supply me with that information.” I uncross my legs and tap my foot on the floor under me. “So demanding. I like it.”

I can hear him shuffling papers in the background. “I’ll have my assistant message your assistant with all the details of the venue. I’m sure it will be of your liking. Then we’ll meet tonight at Torrio’s. Seven sharp. Consider it our own personal happy hour.” “I’m not committing to anything until I see the venue.” “Then I’ll see you at seven.” The phone clicks and I stare at the receiver in my hand. “Prick,” I murmur. A knock sounds on my door.

Secrets and lies are a killer way to start any partnership—especially a horizontal one.
Now, I’m a glass half full kinda of guy, so, after the ‘you’re fired’ speech was directed at me, I figure now’s the time to be the screenwriter I came to sunny California to be. Unfortunately, there are about as many people trying to sell a script in L.A. as there are vegans in the pacific northwest.
But lucky for me, a few weeks ago my agent found an investor for my script. Hooray, all my problems are solved! NOT.
Because the investor will only agree to fund my film if I use one specific actress. And that one specific actress? Well of course, it just has to be the same actress I screwed over only months before. But she doesn’t need to know about that one tiny detail, does she? All that matters is getting her to agree to do the film and I’ll do whatever it takes. We can leave the past, in the past, right?
I thought my charm would win her over. Never would I have been prepared for the terms she laid out on the table.
She needed a nanny. I needed a lead actress. Somehow I became The Manny.

4.5 stars

Sexy Beast certainly describes Garrett, where has he been hiding all this time?

The chemistry, the angst, the laughs and the tears in this book all combine to make this one amazing read. I loved it from start to finish and was gripped by every single page. Piper Rayne mix steamy scenes, romance and real life so well in their plots. The books make me laugh, feel irritated, get hot under the collar and even cry a little.

They also write some of the most likeable, yet annoying and very believable characters and this is what makes their books stand out. They feel like friends and you want to spend time hanging out with them, drinking a few beers and having a laugh.

I can't wait to see who they'll introduce us to next because I haven't been disappointed by a single one of their books so I know I'll love the next one too.

It’s time. Time to get a life. Time to start over. Time to move beyond the past.
The guys in the Single Dads Club would tell you it was time years ago, but until recently, the risk of hurting my little girl outweighed the benefit of getting a piece of ass.
Now that I have a tween daughter on my hands? It’s becoming more apparent with every poster hung on the wall, every fight over wearing make-up and every uncomfortable conversation about puberty, that at least one of us needs a female touch in our lives.
Jesus. I can’t even think the words ‘female touch’ without thinking of her.
Charlotte Rose. Charlie.
She’s everything I shouldn’t want, but someone needs to tell that to my damn libido because every time she’s around I have a constant case of blue balls.
There’s a list of reasons why I shouldn’t give into what I feel—she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s seen me at my most vulnerable, and the biggest one—she’s the first person in eleven years who has the potential to break me.

Excerpt:

Snap a picture and caption it ‘Teenage boy in front of his first Playboy’ because that’s exactly how I feel right now and I’d bet that’s how I look. Charlie stands in the doorway wearing a white bikini, her nipples hard and erect, begging to be touched. The first thing I notice is the way she doesn't cover up, but opens the door wider, ushering me in with her free hand. “I expected the pool guy.” Her voice changes pitch and I gather she's as affected by this situation as I am. The only difference is, my arousal can't be hidden. “He's out of town, so you got me.” “And you can fix it?” I stop and tilt my head her way. “Is that even a question?” “Well,” she walks faster to catch up to me as I use a key to open up the one door that's locked from guests. “Oh, I always wonder what's behind these doors when I rent other people's vacation homes.” She peeks her head over my shoulder and the scent of her perfume makes a beeline for my dick, making it twitch. As he's begging for an introduction, I squat to get away, but she doesn't relent. Her tits are practically resting on my shoulder. “Ever heard of personal space?” I remark, grabbing my tool set. “This isn't half as exciting as I thought it would be.” She finally moves back and I stand with the toolbox in my hands. “Did you think there would be a dead body?” She shrugs. “Porn maybe?” “Why would there be porn?” She purses her lips and looks up at the ceiling. It's innocent and cute and I'm not sure I ever remember seeing her doing it before. “You know, the owner can't keep it in their own house because they have a preteen daughter, so they keep their stash in the closet and watch it when there are no guests here.” “Let me guess? I'm the guy with the preteen daughter.” “You're so smart. I see where Sydney gets it from.” She smiles, a mouthful of straight white teeth. I nod and walk away. She follows. “Do you need help?” “Since I really have no idea what I'm fixing, I don't know yet.” I open the screen door to the hot tub. “It wouldn't turn on.” “That's not a good sign.” I open up the back and start working on it. The little I know about hot tubs might not be enough. Charlie sits on the edge of the hot tub and puts her feet in, her purple polished toenails dipping in and out of the water. “I think I deserve a discount if I can't use the hot tub.” I look up at her and she's smirking. “Funny.” She’s quiet for a few minutes while I fiddle around trying to figure out the source of the problem. “I'm curious, Garrett…” she pauses and I glance up at her. “How do my tits look in this bikini?”

Turn-ons…
Party girls. Platinum blondes. Zero expectations.
I used to think that if you could combine all three into one female, you’d have the perfect woman. The other guys in the Single Dads Club razz me for wearing the crown of the forever bachelor. The one who’ll be in his seventies chasing down young hotties in his wheelchair.
Then why the hell does Ava Pearson—an outdoorsy girl, a brunette, and a woman who screams stability and responsibility—seem to be the only woman on my mind lately?
Especially when I’ve got enough obligations without adding any complications to the mix—my son, my bar…well, that’s about it. But that’s enough for a guy like me.
It’s the cupcakes. It’s gotta be the cupcakes she bakes that keep me coming back for more. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right? Well, it’s apparently a direct target to his dick, too.
Did I forget to mention that she’s my buddy’s daughter…another member’s daughter?
Ava might say she can handle being friends-with-benefits, but I’m not sure she can. Unfortunately for her, I’m too selfish of a prick to care—until I do.

4.5 Stars

I'm not normally one to mention the book's cover but the guy just isn't Dane. And there lies my one and only complaint about this book.

We all know Dane is a loud-mouthed man-whore, don't we. Oh my goodness be prepared to be surprised - especially when you get to just over 50% and everything you EVER believed gets turned on it's head. I knew Piper Rayne would have me loving Dane but I didn't guess (a) how they would do it and (b) just how much I would adore him. To quote Ava

Sorry. So sorry. Judgement is over. You're nothing like I first thought you were.

Dane is an onion with so many layers to peel away.

Ava is just as wonderful and feisty as I expected, but a lot more willing to give Dane a chance. The banter between Ava and Dane is wonderful and Dirty Talker could easily refer to EITHER of them. The chemistry was off the charts and so believable. When the other shoe drops it was so NOT in the way I expected. Neither was the 7 day promise.

It's so difficult to tell you how FANTASTIC this book is, without giving away spoilers. What I will say is that it is written to the usual very high standard I have come to expect from Piper Rayne. It has a plot that isn't full of tired old cliches but has several surprises up it's sleeve. The characters are believable, genuine and so very likeable - yep even Dane, and I certainly wasn't on his team BEFORE I read this book. The pace is good and kept me reading, thank goodness it was a weekend and I didn't have to put this down unfinished at any point.

I'm now desperate for Charlie and Garrett's story, but also sad that it might be the last we see of this wonderful bunch of people. Oh, oh, before I forget, there's some old, familiar faces to be found in this story too.

Excerpt:

I slide in and search for any sign of the spunky brunette who’s always on my case. She’s nowhere to be found, so I tiptoe further back, noticing to my dismay the cupcake case empty.

A thud echoes throughout the quiet space.  “Fuck!”   There’s some more grumbling I can’t make out and then, “Where the hell is it? Stupid, Ava, so stupid. Why did you ever think you could do this?”

I should let her know I’m here.

“Hello? Yes. This is Ava Pearson from Mad Batter.” Another pause. “My power just went out. Yeah. I don’t know where a fuse box is.”  The flashlight moves and shines right past me.

You’re being a dick. Let her know you’re here and help her my inner self keeps repeating.

I click the green button on my phone again.

“Ugh. Hold on a second.” The lighted phone pulls away from her face, she presses ignore. “Ugh, asshole.” Then places it back to her cheek. “Sorry, where would I find the fuse box?”

“My guess is back in the storage room,” I say.

She jumps so far back, she trips over something and falls, her phone scattering along the floor.

I bend down and pick it up.

 “Ma’am. Ma’am.” Frank’s never sounded so scared.

“Hey, Frank. It’s Dane. No, I got it no need for the fire department to come down. Yeah, I saw from across the street. We’ll call back if we need you guys. Yeah, see you on Trivia night.”

I click the red button and turn on the flashlight on her phone.

She’s getting to her feet, brushing off her ass after tripping on a bag of flour.

“Here.” I hold my hand out for her, but she refuses to take it.

“I’m fine. Knocking would be the polite thing to do.” She blocks the light from the flashlight with her arm and I lower it a little.

“Well, I’m an asshole so you shouldn’t expect much.” I shrug, taking her phone with me into the storage room.

“You don’t have to help me. I’m sure the fire department would be willing.” She rambles as she follows me.

“They should be available for actual fires.”

“I imagine fires are like crimes in this town—almost nonexistent.”

I turn around, flashing the light toward my face so she can see me. “You’d be wrong then. Forest fires.” I tap my head and all I hear is her huff.

 “You think you’re so smart.”

She’s embarrassed, I get it, so I don’t rub in the fact I am fucking smart.

“Would you rather me not know how to fix your breaker?”

She hems and haws for a second. “I don’t understand. I was in the middle of making a huge batch of frosting and then total darkness.”

“Was that your way of asking me for help?” I open up the box, purposely not touching any of the breakers.

“I didn’t know I had to ask, since you took upon yourself to sneak into my shop, scare the crap out of me and then walk to the storage room.”

“And I haven’t even told you to keep your doors locked when you’re closed yet. But usually, people say please and thank you when they need a favor.” I give her a wide, condescending smile just to piss her off a little more.

“I’m not most people.”

I nod. “Agreed, but I have to believe that Vic taught you manners.”

“Seriously, you have my hands tied and you’re going to play this game?”

I step closer to her, the firmness of her breasts now pushing against my chest. Damn, she feels good and I don’t even have a hand on her.

“I can tie you up and play games if you like.” I raise a brow.

“Ugh. No. I’m not interested in your games.”

She says no with those plump lips of hers, but it doesn’t escape me that she’s still pressed up against me.

“I thought we played pretty nice together. No?” All I’m able to hear in the darkness is her unsteady breathing—in and out as though it’s a struggle.

“I really need to finish this cake so that I can maybe get three hours sleep tonight.” Her voice is so low and tense. She’s stressed and I’m only adding to that state.

“Say please and it’s yours.”

“Please, Dane.” She even includes my name and by some small miracle, she didn’t even use a sarcastic tone.

I click the button and the lights flicker on. Her eyes widen and a genuine smile tugs at her mouth like I just pulled her up on my horse and rode us away from the monsters.

 That smile could be addicting.

If you were a different type of guy.

Author Bio:

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?
We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.
What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
