Author: Kelly Siskind

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Running into your one-night stand is a special kind of awkward. Competing against him in a wine tasting contest is delicious torment…
On Rachel’s twenty-seventh birthday, she wishes to finally find a rewarding job. What she doesn’t wish is to drink a boatload of wine, sleep with a tattooed bad boy, and drunk email her boss in one glorious, career-ending move. But the fiasco pushes her to pursue a career inspired by her late father’s love of wine: sommelier.
Unfortunately, she’s competing against her infuriating one-night stand, a man as intoxicating as a Pinot Noir.
Two years ago, Jimmy was set to inherit his family winery. Then it got ripped from his grasp. To close that dark chapter of his life, he plans to win a local sommelier contest and use the press to expose his family’s tainted wines.
Jimmy loves studying the streaks of alcohol that cling to a wineglass, known as the wine’s “legs,” but other shapely legs are stealing his focus. Tantalizing legs. Legs that had wrapped around his waist for one wild night. Jimmy, sadly, has a weakness for legs.
He also hates to lose.
LEGS is a full-length, standalone Smart, Sexy Romantic Comedy with a swoony Happily Ever After. No cheating or cliff-hangers here! Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren, Avery Flynn, Alice Clayton, Emma Chase, and Lauren Blakely.

Author Heather Van Fleet - “Kelly is a masterful story teller, and this book proves just that. HIGHLY rec it.”

Bookgasms Book Blog - “This was the perfect way to lose a day - wrapped up in this seductive and satisfying love story.”

Author Elizabeth Zane - “You guys, if you want the perfect book to curl up and read with a nice glass of wine, if you want a book that has romance--sexy, steamy, funny, real, romance--then look no further, you've found your book.”

This is the first book I have read by the author and it won't be the last.

This is a well written book that really focuses on the relationship between the hero and heroine and how their own issues and insecurities impact on it. I really liked both main characters, Rachel with her struggles to know who she was and what she wants and Jimmy being tied down by grudges and resentment. There were several times I thought Jimmy needed to take his head from out of the sand, but this was a deliberate part of the story.

There are a few sub-plots that weave through the main story and give it extra depth, as well as a few characters who we will see in future books. It may have been me, as I read this book in several sittings and around a few other books, but it seemed to have different 'flavours' at different parts of it. It started out almost like a rom-com, and whilst it did retain a thread of wit and humour through-out, later chapters were much less frivolous.

I would recommend this book as an entertaining and well written read.

Rachel settled onto the stool beside me, her spine ramrod straight. She tucked her elbows to her sides. Not exactly relaxed.

A drink could help. “What’s your poison?”

“Apparently dangerous men I don’t know, but I’ll have a glass of the Lynmar Pinot.”

I could do dangerous. “If I’m your poison after two minutes, imagine how you’ll feel in a few hours.” That earned me a long swallow from her. “She’ll have the Foursight,” I added to Cameron. It was sweet how confident she was ordering that wine, but her lips would taste so much better after a sip from my glass.

She shot me a look, her freckles sharp against her reddening cheeks. “Pretty sure I can order for myself, and I’d like the Lynmar.”

“You don’t want the Lynmar. 2011 was a brutal year. Trust me.” No need to bore her about the early rains that season and the lack of fruit.

“Actually I do want the Lynmar.”

Cameron moved to grab the bottle, but I held up my hand. He halted.

To her, I said, “I’ve been sipping the Foursight since I got here. You telling me you don’t want a taste?”

Her attention dropped to my lips again, and she grazed her teeth over hers. Fire sparked in her brown eyes. “I may want a taste of that wine. Later. For now I want the Lynmar.”

“It’s inferior.”

“It’s splendid.”

“The season was crap.”

“The season was hard, not crap.”

“The Foursight is a sure thing,” I said. She must have seen the heat in my gaze.

“I like the underdog,” she countered, a sultry note to her voice. “Finding a diamond in the rough. The vines that survived 2011 were stronger, and a few vintages shone. Like the Lynmar. Hints of spice. Creamy mouthfeel.” A quiet hum passed her lips.

Okay. The girl knew her wine, and my attraction to her spiked. With the haunts I’d been frequenting, and my bartending gig at Rudy’s Tavern, I hadn’t been around a woman like her in ages. No visible ink, her outfit more conservative than racy. Her straight brown hair would look sexy as hell tangled in my fist. “You sure you don’t want to skip to the mouthfeel part?”

She smiled freely, the first hint of her letting loose. “I’m still not sure how bitter the aftertaste will be.”

My answering grin was just as carefree. “I know how to make it sweet, Sunshine.”

She barely reacted, but her nostrils flared. “Then get me a glass of the Lynmar.”

“You’ll regret it.”

“I’m already regretting walking in here.”

I chuckled, unsure the last time flirting had been this much fun. “How about a bet?”

“I don’t bet with strangers.”

“But you have drinks with them?”

She paused. “What sort of bet?”

Between her rejection at Vesper and her stiff posture now, sitting beside me was probably pushing her beyond her limits. Limits I wanted to test. The women I’d messed around with weren’t tough to reel in. We were always after the same thing: a fun night between the sheets. The girl at my side was tipsy, but not so drunk she didn’t know what she was after. Something told me if I could unlace her, it would be lightyears beyond fun.

“You do a blind tasting of the Foursight and the Lynmar,” I said. “If you can’t tell them apart, then I buy you a glass of my choosing, and I get to taste it on your lips. At my place.”

“That escalated fast.” So did her breathing.

“Did you want this to go slow?”

Instead of turning me down, she said, “If I win…if I guess each wine, what do I get?”

“You tell me.”

“A winery?”

I barked out a laugh, but there was nothing funny about her joke. Two years ago, I’d have been able to ante up. “Might be out of my budget. Anything else?”

She looked at me through lowered lashes. “My place.”

Now we were getting somewhere.

She barged her way into my life and demanded that I be her friend. That was the best day of my life. The day Quinn took one look at my sorry ass, and decided I needed her.

She was right. I can’t live a day without her smile. She’s my heart and soul. I’ve become her shadow, always threatening any guy that dares to even look at her.

I’ve fallen for my best friend.  I wish I’d told her sooner how much I love her.

I was only five minutes late. That’s all it took for him to take her.
He ripped the sun right out of my life.

In the darkest of nights, even your shadow leaves you. Those are the only words she’s spoken to me since that night. They haunt me, a constant echo in the emptiness left behind.
Because of him, she now fears me. But I’ll be patient with her.
I’ll get my sunshine back once I’ve dealt with him.
He’s had a taste of her and just like me, he’s addicted.

RELEASE BLITZ ~~~~ Hail No by Lani Lynn Vale

Hail No
(Hail Raisers #1)

by Lani Lynn Vale

A Romantic Suspense

Release: September 27, 2017

Evander Lennox doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to do. At least, that is, until he’s sent to prison. The four years he’s incarcerated, he’s had no choice but to do the things that he’s asked to do, when he’s asked to do them. And now, if he doesn’t, it will mean a one-way ticket straight back to hell.

Once he’s free, it takes him twenty-four hours to get his old job back, his dog at home where he belongs, and an understanding that people aren’t as forgiving as he once thought them to be. He’s just about given up hope of ever integrating back into society when a woman slams into his heart, literally and figuratively.

*** Kennedy Swallow just wants to belong somewhere. When she was younger, her parents divorced, and chose to separate her from her twin. Fast forward fifteen years, and she’s finally getting to meet the family she’s always wanted to be a part of. To make that happen, she uproots her life and moves to the tiny town of Hostel, Texas—giving her almost everything she’s ever wanted.

Just when she thinks she’s making progress in winning her family over, she finds out that her twin is ill, and the only reason her family tolerates her is due to the convenience of having a free caretaker whenever they might be in need of one. After a few eye-opening experiences, she quickly realizes that she’s being used.

Vowing to herself that she’ll make the best of the situation, she begins to steel her heart. What she doesn’t prepare for is a man named Evander who sees that barrier as a challenge.

*** It takes Evander all of ten seconds while watching the woman on the floor, bleeding from her jaw, to realize that maybe life isn’t as bad as it could be. This woman with her thrill for life, a crazy obsession with chickens, and a desire to be wanted, changes everything he thinks he knows.

But it doesn’t take long for him to realize that just by being around her, the people of the town have judged her guilty by association.

Her business suffers, and soon after, she realizes what it will mean to have him by her side—the loss of everything she’s worked so hard for. Kennedy knows that Evander is worth it. Evander, however, decides that he’s not letting another person get hurt because he was stupid enough to care.

4.5 Stars

This is the first book by Lani Lynn Vale that I have read and she has jumped right onto my list of favourite authors with it. Hail No had a fantastic mix of action, angst, funny moments, steam and mystery. This book took me through a whole host of emotions and not only did I read it in one sitting, it read it into the early hours in order to finish it - I couldn't put it down.

Evander wasn't your typical alpha male but was definitely the strong and silent type, with a huge urge to protect Kennedy. He made me melt with his gentle caring and even when he needed a clout around the head for not treating Kennedy properly, his actions were always well meant. Kennedy is a total oddball heroine, incredibly kind and giving, to the point of being taken advantage of at times.

This book would have been the full 5 stars if it wasn't for two questions I was left with. Perhaps these will be answered in future stories, but I felt that their place was in this book as they were both important in Kennedy and Evander's story. First was how her twin and her twin's husband treated her following the doctor's appointment. I know we got an explanation towards the end of the book as to why Kennedy's dad and brother were aloof, but I'd got the impression that she and Trixie were close.

"From the moment we met, it was like the twenty-six years separating us had never happened.
And now, three and a half years later, we were making up for lost time."

So I found the whole 'Trixie' part a little odd. The second issue was a why and who about the vet. Was it over the peacocks or not? I was reading this late at night but it didn't feel like there was actually an answer given for that whole situation.

The romance between Evander and Kennedy was so unromance like but also very sweet, unique and really suited their characters. I even liked the truth Kennedy revealed to Evander when she told him at had been a really long time, it perfectly fitted her quirky personality.

I really enjoyed how well the author wove different elements into this story, I've read some books where the suspense or action draw you away from the romance. Despite this book seemingly having a little of everything in it, the elements were blended together so well that it was a gripping story of love, acceptance, solving a mystery and righting some wrongs that had me from the first sentence.

I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
