So far I have only read the prologue, epilogue and two stories so will update this review as I read more.
The prologue and epilogue are written by Maren Smith and they ooze with emotion. She has such a talent for writing characters who leap of the page and come alive in your brain. Whilst in some ways the setting of the book was quite sad, I really liked the portrayal of an older couple in the kink world too. I really need a follow up book to know that Sophie and Walt are still going strong and enjoying their time at the CCC!
A Hero for Lauren by Felicity Brandon
Blake was so swoony, everything we hope a fireman and a caring Dom would be. Lauren was a little naive and innocent, despite being 25, but it was perfect for this charming story of a Hero and his damsel in distress.
Despite being a fairly short novella, I definitely felt the chemistry between the couple, and I liked how there was a lot of focus on communication and getting to know each other. There are a couple of very sexy spanking scenes and a little more kinky play too. Blake felt very much a Daddy dom with his caring and nurturing way, though Lauren referred to him as Sir and there wasn't any age play.
This is a wonderful little story that was very easy to read and held my attention throughout. It's set over a very short time period and I really appreciated that it was more of a HFN and a "let's see how things go" ending, rather than containing declarations of love. Frankly I find the insta-love in some stories just too unbelievable so a huge thumbs up that this story took a more realistic and believable course.
Dance Card by Maren Smith
Rylee is a wall flower to the extent of blending in to the scenery, yet at no point did she come across as whiny or weak. Walker seems to be quite an alpha Dom though throughout the story, right up to the end, we discover more and more of a vulnerable side to him. This pair worked so well together, I totally believed in their connection and was awed by the depth of feeling I got from reading this short story.
Even though some of the 'play' wasn't kink that appeals to me, the author writes it in a way that still makes it both sexy and appealing. There was quite an intensity to it at times, though that was almost more due to emotion than any physical interactions.
