Me on Monday - the 'college years' edition

Today finds me giving a friendly wave to Sian and everyone else taking part or just reading 'Me on Monday'.

It was a quick scrapping, college visiting, rugby watching, marking books and doing some tedious admin type tasks, fresh air enjoying but not seeing any bats type of weekend.

Saturday morning I managed to make a LO based on a sketch and a colour board AND using up a long neglected quirky kit.  I had to scribble a hasty shopping list for my OH as I realised I wasn't going to get to the supermarket and back before taking my sons in to Nottingham to visit some college open days.

The elder-by-one-minute son doesn't really have much idea what he wants to do.  He thinks he may stay on at the school 6th form and take drama, ICT and 'something else' !!!!  The younger-by-one-minute son loved the course we heard about at Confetti College in Nottingham (Games Technology).  He liked that he could move on to a foundation degree to learn some computer languages (C+ and Java anybody?)

The world of the computer

He has an interview in November, but is worried because he has been told that all his ICT coursework is invalid due to a school 'leaking' some content online.  We will just have to wait and see.

We popped to another college, the lecturer had a degree in fine art and had learnt to use CAD in his sculpting work.  He was an amazingly interesting bloke to talk to and the elder-by-one-minute son was quite interested in the course (Games Development and Design).  He's still not sure - I think he is attracted to the 'safety' of staying at school.

We watched more rugby and then I spent on hour or so doing some school work.

Sunday was a boring day of doing housework, marking, ironing, doing seating and sending emails whilst watching the Grand Prix, marking and watching 'Hunted'.  We also spend a short time outside looking for bats - they often fly over our garden at night, but we weren't lucky enough to see them this time.  It was one of those days where the hours disappear into nothing and you wonder where the time went.  It was also a Sunday of feeling very guilty that I didn't manage to go and visit my Mum, who is still recovering from her hip operation.

Today sees me spending the day with Y11 as they do a PSHE day on careers and the next step in their education.

How was your weekend?  Busy? Quiet? Relaxed or Hectic?  Whatever it was I hope it was Happy,

thanks for popping by

  1. What a busy week you have had. Bats, oh they do give me the willies ... it was a great F1 Grand Prix race, exciting & I felt so bad for Nico...we groaned at Mr Putin in the room with the drivers ...your lady in the clock is great depiction of how it feels many days ... I need/want a life pause button. Hope you have a great week Louise.

  2. I'm another one who is frightened of bats! Now there's another advantage of comments..I don't feel quite so odd admitting that now I've seen someone else do it first.

I hope your boys find exactly the right fit for them. Oh, it can be hard can't it? We so want them to be happy and fulfilled. I have one who always knew what he wanted to do, and one who isn't quite so sure.

    Have a great week Louise

  3. Me too ... I'm frightened of bats as well!

Hope your boys find courses that they enjoy. I don't envy them having to make these decision - a stressful time for you all.

  4. Oh the bats are delightful, they swoop so quietly and elegantly across the garden ... I wouldn't care for them too close up though!
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment x

  5. We get a lot of bats and we have lesser horseshoe bats "lodging" in our boiler room which is rather like a garage. Sometimes when you walk through one of our other sheds bats brush over your head in the evening. My sister in law has a bat detector that amplifies their noise waves.
Goodness I feel weighed down by sorting out one daughter and her future. I'm trying to imagine two at one go and then a whole class as well!

  6. Sometimes weekends have to be full of those things although sounds like it was pretty productive. And you got to make a page too in amongst everything! Good luck with the college visits.
